PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Naturalist is responsible for maintaining both public and animal safety while ensuring optimal guest service and satisfaction.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interpret the aquarium's living collection to visitors through exciting and entertaining programs, presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations using voice amplification equipment.
Maintain both public and animal safety, monitor visitor behavior, correct where necessary, and advise animal care supervisor and/or management of abnormal situations.
Perform ticket verification prior to entry into the aquarium exhibits.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work efficiently and remain calm in a very fast-paced and stressful environment.
Able to use voice amplification equipment.
Exceptional memorization skills to memorize information pertaining to animals and exhibits.
Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and verbal forms.
Ability to multi-task and work well in a team-oriented environment
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all business contacts.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
PREFERRED:
High school diploma or equivalent
Six (6) months of experience in an attraction or aquarium environment
Biology background
Public speaking or theatrical experience
Experience working in a similar resort setting.
