SUMMARY: The Server is responsible for greeting residents and guests and for performing full wait staff duties during breakfast, lunch, and dinner meal times.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform wait staff duties during the meal times; greet guests, offer water and beverages, receive menu orders, communicate with the line cook, deliver orders and assist resident and guests with other dining needs as needed in a timely manner.
  • Clear, clean and set dining room tables as needed in a manner consistent with proper procedures to avoid cross contamination.
  • Perform dishwashing and cleaning procedures as assigned and as needed.
  • Follows safety regulations at all times and follows established infection control and Universal Precautions, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a pleasant dining environment for the residents and guests of the IL.
  • Assist in maintaining wait staff service area and other duties as assigned by the Lead Server or Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Disposes of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
  • Provides documentation of food and equipment temperatures as assigned.
  • Properly labels and stores food items.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste and disease (HBV and HIV).
  • Will be exposed to heat in kitchen work areas and cold temperatures in food storage/freezer areas.
  • Stands, bends, lifts, moves and walks throughout workday.
  • May be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc, up to fifty pounds throughout the workday.
  • Subject to different work paces throughout the day depending on the dining needs of the residents.
  • May be required to work after regular work hours, or holidays or weekends.
  • May be required to work on shifts other than the shift initially hired for.
  • Exposed to slippery floors.
  • Exposed to odors.
  • Exposed to sharp blades and objects throughout the day.
  • Exposed to various chemicals throughout the day.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to interpret and explain the menu, refer or answer questions, coordinate the meals service process and understand requests.
  • Ability to communicate with, understand, empathize with, work with and be tolerant of residents, families, visitors, peers, supervisors, and subordinates.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers card.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the elderly population and be sensitive to the individual needs of the residents at the IL.
  • Must be able to perform duties in a timely manner consistent with the needs of the residents, dining room standards, and assigned task schedules.
