POSITION SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• 
  Provide clear and effective guidance for technical approaches to accomplish the greatest overall value to the company.
• Establish and maintain relationships with essential internal and external technical experts to ensure technical expertise is available and program requirements are being achieved.
• Provide input during all phases of programs to solve challenging technical issues.
• Identify new and novel systems and certification solutions to facilitate completions of company projects.
• Provide technical review and approval of system designs, especially those that are of high risk or new technology.
• Present technical concepts, engineering, and certification basis for designs to Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) and regulatory agencies.
• Partner with vendors and suppliers to ensure that engineering methods, approaches and products meet company engineering requirements.
• Evaluate suppliers for technology and engineering capabilities and methods.
• Advance technical design concepts for the engineering department taking into account cost competitiveness, market differentiators, new technology advancements and risk.
• Identify, plan, and conduct medium- to large-size projects within engineering specialty requiring custom, risk-managed execution plans, investigations, and/or equipment. Manages multiple, often concurrent, projects and meets deadlines.
• Maintain project controls and reporting for cost, scope and schedule; develops execution strategy including procurement; balances multiple demands within and understands the business needs of the company and has a thorough knowledge of the customer when developing a project scope. Incorporate business foresight of emerging technological trends.
• Design complex experiments, often with multiple variables, gathers data, and performs detailed analysis. Assess relevance. Conceptualize complete solutions. Create or coordinate the design solutions for novel or complex problems; integrates regulatory and operational needs; assesses cost benefit. Explore multiple alternatives. Structure studies and integrate cross-disciplinary and cross-functional issues to arrive at optimal cause of action.
• Support and champion corporate directives, policies and initiatives.
• Interact with both senior management and external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. Submit articles for internal publication. Act as a trusted advisor. Balance bottom line objectives of a project with long-term interest of customer. Participate in internal teams to develop and align procedures and standards.
• Conduct software system design activities and reviews.
• Ensure architectural solutions meet technical requirements and functional objectives.
• Ensure technical designs comply with architecture guiding principles.
• Review existing system architectures and recommend improvements.
• Assist in Voxx Automotive growth through the Goal Planning process and individually driven goals.
• Using the Voxx Automotive internal Product Development Lifecycle system, create and deliver appropriate files with all documentation required to support IATF 16949.
• Comply with company and department policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
• Assist in the development and continuing improvement efforts to establish Voxx Automotive and the Engineering Department as World Class in the industry.
• As hoc projects assigned by management.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• 
  Experience developing strategic system architecture plans for complex embedded systems or software only designs.
• Experience evaluating requirements and capable of providing feedback and recommendations.
• Experience deriving systems requirements from stakeholder requirements and maintaining traceability throughout the design.
• Experience in development of system specifications to include hardware and software designs.
• Solid understanding of information processing fundamentals and best practices.
• Ability to simulate and analyze complex engineering problems.
• Ability to build effective working relationships, persuade and influence, and problem-solve complex issues.
• Experience conducting technology, trends, standards, and products research.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
• Proven experience identifying, analyzing, and resolving system problems.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Familiarity and expertise in a variety of products.
• Strong documentation and writing skills.
• Must be able to demonstrate the following attributes: Adaptability, flexibility, excellent organization skills, multitasking, and possess strong analytical and excellent communication skills.
• Must have the ability to learn computer applications, as necessary, for the position.
• Must have the ability to develop solutions for moderate to complex problems or systems.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• 
  Android and/or Linux system development experience is highly preferred.
• Experience in system and network creation and development preferred.
• Experience in cloud computing, preferably AWS
• Understanding of virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMWare, Virtual Box)
• Principle knowledge of agile development methodologies.
• Familiarity with Object-Oriented Programming, coding for large scale web or client-server applications, and development of application service layers.
• Knowledge of version control tools such as Git.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

• 
  Minimum BS in Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Minimum of 3 - 6 years of relevant design experience or architectural capacity.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• 
  Travel (domestic and international) as required.
• Possess valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport if required.
• Typically, shall work in an office environment and need to be able to sit for extended periods of time.
• Required to wear proper safety equipment when/where necessary.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
