The primary goal of the Senior Analyst, Population Health, is to use data science principles and proprietary applications to maximize the health of our patients and the performance of our physicians. This individual will investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data and will be responsible for interpreting and analyzing clinical and payer claims data from various sources. The Senior Analyst is responsible for evaluating key population health metrics and presenting key findings to senior leaders and physicians in order to support the design, development, and implementation of Population Health programs that improve performance of health outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participating in the development of analytical tools and data reports that will monitor organizational progress against health outcomes measures and medical cost trends
  • Providing required analysis in order to understand medical cost and utilization drivers, as well as providing insightful commentary and sensitivity modeling analyses
  • Building proactive relationships with key business areas to identify analytical needs and providing recommendations to improve programs for disease management, case management, and utilization review
  • Managing data from key payors including Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurers
  • Designing, building, and calculating key metrics for each value-based payor contract
  • Developing analytics to identify coding gap opportunities impacting risk score adjustment
  • Evaluating alternative payment models and other innovative risk sharing arrangements
  • Designing, building, and optimizing predictive models to risk stratify patients for clinical intervention
  • Tracking and analyzing provider financial performance in order to recommend options and solutions for the organization to meet its Population Health Management objectives
  • Participating in and leading data manipulation of complicated data sets from multiple internal and external sources
  • Performing hands-on tasks, including with data acquisition from disparate systems, data transformation and analysis and communicating findings
  • Leading and mentoring junior analysts

Required Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited institution
  • 4+ years of experience working in a health data role in managed care, population health, or health insurance
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; including pivot tables, linked spreadsheets, lookup formulas, and graphing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge and experience in SQL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a data-related field
  • Experience working with large databases, e.g. health insurance claims databases, data warehousing, and/or database administration preferred; experience with encounter submissions

New York Residents Only: The salary range for New York residents is $46,700 to $91,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
