Overview:

Merrick is seeking a Senior Engineer in the Bioprocessing and/or Food & Beverage sector with at least 12 years of experience. The candidate may also work on hygienic, manufacturing, personal care, biofuels, energy, industrial, and chemical projects. The responsibilities include, but not limited to leading projects and managing other engineers to maintain scope, schedule, and budget. The candidate must have a firm understanding of plant operations and be able to mentor less experienced engineers. This is a full-time remote position.


Responsibilities:


  • Application of knowledge and experience in hygienic design to equipment and systems for bioprocessing, food & beverage and other facilities.
  • Interface with operating personnel at client sites to conduct root cause analysis and solve problems.
  • Develop scopes of work based on RFPs and pre-bid meetings with clients.
  • Support Merrick project managers by drafting comprehensive technical approaches for proposals.
  • Interpret scopes-of-work and translate them into executable project plans.
  • Communicate clearly with client project managers to report project status and describe technical solutions.
  • Work with other disciplines to develop primary documents including PFDs and P&IDs
  • Develop and manage all aspects of the mechanical design including specifications and datasheets for pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, and rotating equipment.
  • Work with designers to develop piping isometric drawings.
  • Checking mechanical documents and interfaces from documents developed by other disciplines.
  • Contribute to the preparation of construction documents including drawings, specifications, calculations, and equipment datasheets.
  • Interface with suppliers and create bid tabs.
  • Create work orders for subcontractors to provide services on projects.
  • Manage the fabrication of equipment engineered by Merrick.
  • Mentor other mechanical engineers and designers.
  • Travel to client sites and Merrick offices will be required.

Required Credentials and Skills:


  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering or chemical engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in the bioprocessing and/or food & beverage sectors including hygienic and sanitary/sterile design of equipment and systems.
  • Experience walking down industrial and manufacturing sites and providing high-level condition assessments.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of consensus standards including 3A, ASME BPE and B31.3, PIP, EHEDG, and API codes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE).
  • Strong leadership skills are necessary to perpetuate and grow the mechanical engineering discipline at Merrick & Company.

Desired Credentials and Skills:


  • Experience in GMP design and compliance
  • Knowledge and experience in design of personal care, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, renewable energy, chemical and industrial facilities
  • Project management, project engineering and engineering project team lead experience
  • Experience with fabrication drawings including welding and NDE maps.
  • Experience with ASME Section IX weld procedures.
  • Experience in managing personnel.

Physical Requirements:


  • Travel to project sites and equipment fabricator shop locations.
  • Walking down plant systems and equipment, which includes climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

  • Typical salary range for this position is $120,000.00-$150,000.00 annually. The pay range listed in this posting indicates the position’s eligibility to work in the state of Colorado and is consistent with our offices there; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
