Northern New Mexico Integrated Security, located in beautiful northern New Mexico, provides a professional, highly trained protective force that safely secures special nuclear material, people and other critical assets for the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration and the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Security Police Officer I (SPO I) is an armed position that provides security protection for Special Nuclear Material (SNM) and components, classified matter, government property and facilities, utilizing specialized training in weapons and tactics in accordance with Department of Energy (DOE), Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Northern New Mexico Integrated Security, LLC (N2MIS) orders, policies and procedures. The position works under general supervision to protect LANL security interests and property from theft, vandalism, illegal entry and other acts that adversely impact national security or the health and safety of the laboratory’s employees. The SPO I assesses and processes the perimeter intrusion detection alarm system and executes force options as appropriate. The SPO I provides armed responses and resolves security incidents, alarms and crises.

COMPENSATION

$18.38 – increased to $35.42 after two years of employment; Non-Exempt, Full-time

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience:

  • US Citizenship required
  • Position is onsite (not remote)
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least 19 years of age
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico driver’s license
  • Must not have any convictions of a misdemeanor offense related to domestic violence
  • Must not have any felony convictions
  • Must not have a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last 5 years
  • Currently have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a DOE Q level security clearance. Please note – Illegal drug use may hinder an applicant’s ability to complete the security clearance process. This includes medical and recreational marijuana use.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
  • Meet and maintain the physical fitness certifications required under 10 CFR 1046 and DOE Order 473.2A
  • Military, security or law enforcement experience considered a plus

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Recruitment and Assessment Steps:

Candidates are required to complete multiple recruitment and assessment steps to be considered for the Security Police Officer Position. Failure at any step will result in dismissal from the recruitment process. These steps include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Complete the online application and include a resume
  • Successfully pass the Wonderlic Assessment, an online test of general cognitive abilities.
  • Participate in an onsite Recruitment Assessment event on June 1, 2023. An invitation with detailed instructions, along with any required forms, is emailed to eligible applicants prior to the event. This event is conducted in Los Alamos, New Mexico at an altitude of approximately 7,400 feet. Travel arrangements and costs are not organized or reimbursed by Northern New Mexico Integrated Security and are the responsibility of the applicant. Inability or failure to attend the required assessment date results in an automatic withdrawal of your application.

During the assessment event you must:
  • Pass various physical fitness testing including the Advanced Readiness Standards as specified in 10 CFR 1046 along with additional N2MIS requirements. These include:
    • One mile run in eight (8) minutes thirty (30) seconds or less
    • Forty-yard (40) dash in eight (8) seconds or less starting from a prone position
    • Push-ups and sit-ups – maximum repetition in one minute for each
  • Pass a firearms simulation assessment on your basic understanding (safety and control) and manipulation of weapon systems. This is a demonstrated assessment in a virtually simulated environment.
  • Complete a panel interview with the hiring team

Final Job Offer Requirements:

  • Pass a comprehensive onsite physical and psychological exam, including drug and alcohol screens
  • Pass a pre-employment background check to include a consumer credit inquiry

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in an office and in the field in various conditions, including inclement weather, life threatening and adverse situations while protecting and ensuring the safety of the public and national security. There is a possibility of being placed in life-threatening and adverse situations while protecting and the safety of the public and national security. Shift work is required.


Physical demands of this position may vary from situation to situation. Required fitness standards are contained in Title 10 CFR 1046. Physical work demands are considered medium work with lifting requirements up to 50 pounds. Must have visual acuity to make general observations of facilities or structures. May be subject to hazards including moving vehicles and firearms. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday. Required to be fitted for and wear a respirator.
