POSITION TITLE:
Health Secretary


REPORTS TO:
Building Principal


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 month employment with benefits


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Previous secretarial experience.
  • Possess basic knowledge of medical terminology associated with school criteria.
  • Typing and knowledge of Microsoft and Google Workspace including word processing, spreadsheets, and data collection.
  • Nursing software experience preferred.
  • Ability to function effectively with co-workers, administration, staff, students, parents, and other community members.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work with precise medical details.
  • Possess good organizational skills.
  • Maintain CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) with AED (Automated External Defibrillator) certification and maintain first aid skill.


JOB GOAL:
Assist with the efficient operation of the health professional at each school.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for overseeing current health records for students.
  • Ongoing immunization compliance to include Preschool students.
  • Works in PowerSchool and health technology program.
  • Design, creation and updates of health related forms, letters and documentation.
  • Assists with filing pertinent nurse's records to include Preschool.
  • Maintain good communications with staff in all school-related matters.
  • Assists other office personnel when needed.
  • Keep current health records for students, new students and maintain a database for health records.
  • Order, distribute and provide medical supplies.
  • Scheduling assistance as needed with clinic trainings, screenings, health programs and meetings.
  • Aid as needed during vision, hearing, height, and weight screenings as directed by school nurse for students to include Preschool.
  • Prepare and acquire updated materials on communicable diseases for teachers, parents, and students.
  • Assist with kindergarten registration.
  • Ability to administer first aid.
  • Ability to be discreet with confidential information.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state immunization requirements; maintain immunizations records, aid in immunization reporting as directed by school nurse.
  • Interact appropriately with staff and parents.
  • Provides health care to students as delegated by school nurse and/or building principal including diabetes, asthma, allergies, seizures, head lice check, emergency medication administration including epi-pen/Auvi-Q, Diastat/Midazolam and Glucagon/Baqsimi.
  • Administer medicine to students as designated.
  • Collaborate with staff, parents and school nurses on emergency action plans, individual health plans, IEP, and ETR planning as needed.
