Blazerworks, in partnership with a reputable school district in Forest City, NC, is seeking a qualified and passionate Orientation Mobility Specialist for the 2023-2024 school year. This position offers an opportunity to work with a caseload of 2 students, encompassing Middle School &High School grades. Responsibilities:

• Provide orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments.
• Assess the individual needs of students and develop personalized orientation and mobility plans.
• Teach students essential skills to navigate their environment, such as safe travel techniques, orientation to new places, and the use of mobility aids.
• Collaborate with educators, parents, and other specialists to ensure the inclusion and success of students with visual impairments.
• Utilize appropriate assistive technology and resources to enhance students' orientation and mobility skills.
• Monitor and evaluate students' progress and make necessary adjustments to instructional strategies.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and other relevant information.
• Stay updated on current research, trends, and best practices in the field of orientation and mobility.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Certification as a Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
• Experience working with students with visual impairments, preferably in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of best practices and instructional strategies for teaching orientation and mobility skills.
• Familiarity with assistive technology and resources used in orientation and mobility instruction.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, parents, educators, and other professionals.
• Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans based on students' unique needs.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
