Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent
  • Good computer skills (Required)
  • Saw cutting experience (Preferred)
  • Mechanical or Machinist capabilities and experience (Preferred)
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to learn how to use the Saw and other steel cutting devices
  • Proven communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical ability
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintaining regular and reliable attendance and a positive attitude is a MUST
  • Attention to detail is a MUST
  • Ability to manage conflict
  • Ability to optimize work processes
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities and adapt to periodic hectic workloads
  • Comfort using a desktop or laptop computer is required for this position

Responsibilities:

Include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Working closely with the Production and Traffic Assistant to prioritize saw cutting and other jobs/projects
  • Cutting and staging raw material for shipment, arranging remaining material for restocking
  • Printing of labels
  • Reporting deficiencies to Management/Supervisor
  • Assisting in organizing material storage systems
  • Maintaining saws and surroundings areas clean
  • Maintaining traceability of material (Heat numbers, grade, etc.)
  • Participating in all inventory cycle count/year end as needed
  • Complying with all Safety and corporate policies
  • Performing other duties related to Production that may be assigned by your Supervisor

Work Conditions:

  • Environment is that of a heavy industrial worksite
  • Exposure to air particles, such as dust, chemical (paint, oil, gas, diesel fumes) and weld smoke
  • Exposure to loud, penetrating noises in some work areas
  • Proper personal protective equipment is required at all times, such as, metatarsal boots, ear plugs/ear muffs, safety glasses, pants, hard hats and possible respirator use

Job Summary:

As a Saw Operator in the steel cutting department, your main responsibilities consist of efficiently planning, coordinating and executing daily steel cutting work orders given to you from the Production and Traffic Assistant. Provide at any given time an accurate report of cutting progress, material discrepancies and nonconformance. You will be an integral part of meeting or exceeding the department functional and organizational key performance indicators and will be responsible for safety compliance and production efficiency. This position requires a commitment to work in some cases extended hours during busy cutting periods as well as being a team player dedicated to improve the department performance among other responsibilities throughout each day. Preferably, the person hired for this position should be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the steel cutting task and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The position will report directly to the Operations Manager.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
