JOB SUMMARY:

The Penn State Children’s Hospital is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one the Best Children’s Hospital across multiple specialties. As a designated Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center, the hospital is just one of eight in the nation, and the only one in Pennsylvania, to achieve this designation through the American College of Surgeons Children’s Surgery Verification Program. In addition, our hospital boasts a 3-star rating for the Congenital Heart Surgery program awarded by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. We are also a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an 18-bed unit providing critical care nursing to a diverse and interactive patient population ranging from infancy to adolescence, utilizing cutting-edge technology such as ECLS and CRRT. Family/Patient Centered Care is at the heart of all nursing measures, and the PICU is privileged to provide all children and families with private rooms so that a parent can stay overnight with their child.

As a PICU nurse, your patients may require care for trauma, acute respiratory disease, general surgery, kidney transplant, congenital heart disease surgery, neurology/neurosurgery, open heart surgery, and palliative and/or end-of-life care. During these difficult times, our nurses embrace and care for one another as a family.

While PICU nurses must attain the highest skill level within the Children’s Hospital, the leadership team consistently provides the individual tools needed to reach your highest level of practice. Your involvement in all PICU nursing decisions is encouraged and appreciated. With confidence, grows a sense of autonomy and strong patient advocacy, where everyone is a winner, especially our young patients.

Consider joining our passionate and welcoming team of pediatricians, pediatric specialists, certified pediatric nurses, other allied health professionals, and our dedicated ancillary staff.
