Job Summary:

Duties include managing care of all residents, providing oversight of the staff regarding activities in an assigned community, communicating medical professionals and families about the needs of residents, maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards and communicating with executive leadership on all appropriate matters.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, assures highest quality resident care is provided in compliance with state regulations and company policies and
  • Ensures all residents are evaluated prior to residency as required by individual state regulations or with change of condition to ensure services are delivered.
  • Communicates with residents, family, and staff on an as needed basis to meet resident needs. Participates in care conferences with residents and family members to discuss resident needs and appropriate service delivery in association with service plan updates.
  • Assures that all shifts are covered in compliance with state regulations and company policy.
  • Oversees the monitoring of staff in administration of medication, including frequents audits of medication sheets.
  • Oversees medication management, including administration of medications to residents, ordering medication from pharmacy and maintaining records as dictated in company policies and procedures manual.
  • Observes residents’ health statuses, takes actions to address concerns within scope of practice. Reviews capabilities of resident who self-administer medications on a regular basis (refer to state regulations regarding medication assistance and documentation).
  • Responsible for all local, state, and federal rules and regulations as they apply to services delivered in the Specified Care area including staff selections, training and oversight, resident care and documentation, and compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, Blood Borne Pathogen Guidelines, and any other rule that applies to the work the community performs.
  • Performs ongoing assessments of resident physical and psycho-social needs and coordinates with nurse to assure quality proactive care as allowed by state
  • Assures that resident chart records and records documenting services provided by outside healthcare professionals are maintained properly in accordance with State requirements and company policy.
  • Responsible for screening, hiring, training, and supervising all care staff. This includes managing poor performance, coaching to improve skills, directing staff to provide activities that correspond to care plans and appropriate documentation and compliance with all human resource guidelines. Assures that all staff maintain appropriate annual training to keep up with state requirements.

  • Assists in developing service plan reviews as required, with appropriate resident care team members and resident families.
  • Observes residents, records significant reactions, and notifies Executive Director, Director, physician, and pharmacist (as applicable) of resident’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Responds promptly to all emergency calls from residents.
  • Coordinates monthly staff schedules, arranges replacement staffing when necessary and maintains clear records of all changes, requires and irregularities.
  • Assures in-house ancillary medical services such as podiatrist, doctor visits, psych visits, labs, x-ray, ambulance, etc. are scheduled and followed through.
  • Participates in community functions including family socials and open houses. Communicates with community professionals.
  • Ensures that any employees reports work in a safe manner and that unsafe actions are corrected. Should workplace injuries occur, assist the Executive Director with the investigation, return to work, and management of the injured worker communication with care provider and the management company.
  • Fosters teamwork with co-workers, shows initiative in overcoming obstacles, takes actions which assist others beyond job responsibilities, and has a positive impact on co-workers, residents, and visitors. Has working knowledge of the

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred in a field related to the position. Must have proven management experience and ability to manage staff. Minimum three years’ experience in assisted living preferred. Preference may be given to LVN or RN candidates.

Certifications, Licenses, and other Special Requirements:

Must have a current Tuberculosis skin test or chest x-ray. Must have current CPR and First Aid certification. Must pass criminal background check.

Essential Skills:

A candidate for Resident Care Director must possess exemplary work ethics, excellent communication skills, leadership, supervision and staff development capabilities, organization skills, and a desire to assure that residents are provided with the highest quality of care. Experience in supervising medications and supervising staff in a long-term care setting is required.
