As an employee in this entry-level position, you would help achieve that mission by serving as a subject matter expert in assisting customers with their applications to obtain Iowa Residency designations to purchase Iowa Resident recreational licenses (i.e. hunting and fishing licenses) and by providing a broad array of support functions for DNR staff.

In this role, major responsibilities include:
Residency Program Administration


  • Receiving, auditing and responding to application request from customers requesting designation as Iowa Residents in order to purchase recreational license privileges (i.e. hunting and fishing licenses).
  • Reviewing residency applications against program requirements, administrative rules and Iowa Code to ensure that minimum requirements have been met. Following up with applicants regarding missing information and managing/closing files.

Support Services
  • Greeting and screening both walk-in and call-in customers to provide appropriate information and services; and selling licenses and other recreational privileges using a cash register and credit card terminal.
  • Working in a team environment to provide general clerical support services to internal staff, including coordinating supply orders, servicing copy machines and assisting with Departmental mailings.
  • Serving in a backup capacity to the Mailroom, Main Phone line, and Storekeeper.
  • Coordinating internal print orders.
  • Coordinating staff accounts for office supply vendors and mail service providers.

Essential Functions
  • Utilizes a personal computer at a moderate to complex level with primary work in Microsoft Suite - including detailed work in Microsoft Access and Web-based databases.
  • Manages Personally Identifiable Information (PII) related to customer records.
  • Communicates daily with customers and stakeholders via phone, email, chat, and video conference and in person meetings.
  • Collaborates with coworkers on program changes/updates/efficiencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to three years of full-time clerical or closely related work;

OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or satisfactory completion of a recognized correspondence or formal job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level such as that offered by WIN, OEO, CEP, CIVEC or similar programs, for one year only of the required experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting nine months or thirty semester hours coursework in an accredited business school, college or university for each year of the required experience;
OR
certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full time experience as a resident treatment worker or Clerk–Advanced.
