How you will contribute:

  • Effectively contribute to manufacturing support via supporting deviation investigations and process robustness improvements, using analytical methodology to characterize In-process samples from Commercial scale and Pilot Scale.
  • Ensure lab readiness by completing daily/weekly laboratory instrument maintenance, and stocking of lab consumables for daily operations.
  • Display technical understanding of biochemical and technical aspects of protein purification.
  • Act with minimal supervision to initiate and/or conduct studies and improvement projects for product quality, process robustness, product yield based on recent technical knowledge.
  • Must be able to multitask and frequently change priorities depending on business need.
  • Be willing to cross train in other areas of the lab, to perform protein purifications in support of manufacturing investigations, process improvement/optimization and characterization of in-process intermediates and drug product at Pilot Scale.
  • Support commercial manufacturing operations to meet fulfillment targets (lot release timing). Participate in the execution of studies tailored at providing experimental data to support product impact assessments, corrective and preventive actions and root cause investigations as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Required bachelors' degree in science, or other related technical field with a minimum of 1 years’ experience.
  • The position requires relevant laboratory skills, writing skills, and computer skills plus teamwork/interpersonal skills as well as accountability, an inquisitive mind-set and a good work ethic. Candidate is expected to take initiative to work on projects and be highly accountable as well as adherence to timelines and priorities.

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Practical knowledge and experience in the area of biochemistry, protein purification, and engineering principles.
  • Bio-separation techniques including HPLC/UPLC is preferable.
  • Possess knowledge and or proficiency in buffer preparation, total protein determination by UV Absorbance, ELISA, Nephelometry, chromogenic assays, PAGE and Western Blots.
  • Computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Minitab)
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation, and contact vendors for technical support or service.

Complexity and Problem Solving

  • Act independently with minimal supervision to execute and/or conduct studies and improvement projects for product quality, process robustness, product yield and cycle time based on recent technical knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of Analytical Method, Development; Transfers and Validation is preferred.
  • Act with minimal supervision to assist with instrument and method qualifications as needed.

Other Job Requirements

  • Must be able to push/pull 35 lbs. and lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to work in cold environment.
  • In general, the position requires laboratory work involving constant moving and standing in a fast-paced environment.

Important Considerations

At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:

  • Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.
  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
  • Work in a cold, wet environment.
  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.
  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
