The Molecular Reproductive Immunology Unit at C.S. Mott Center for Human Development at Wayne State University has an immediate opening at the level of Research Scientist. Position is secured through a new R01 and salary is guaranteed for at least 4 years. The incumbent will work closely with PI to develop a program evaluating the impact of environmental factors on the development of the fetal immune system and will be responsible for the design and implementation of major experimental projects essential to the laboratory's scientific research goals. Best candidate is a highly motivated individual with ambition for future career in academia or biotech industry that has developed an extensive and specialized knowledge of scientific principles, concepts and technology related to the establishment of microbiology models, data analysis and bioinformatics.

Collaborates with PI to develop long-range scientific plans for funded studies and coordinate personnel responsibilities.
Design and perform research protocols independently or as directed through training
  • tissue culture, RNA and protein isolation, RT-PCR, qPCR, western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation, flow cytometry; knowledge and ability to work with mice is a plus
Strong background in cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology and molecular biology techniques.
Solves complex methodology, protocol, procedural and research problems through design of techniques, procedures, and policies that will achieve research goals.
Assist in writing research protocols and in manuscript and grant preparation.
Training and supervision of post-doctoral fellows and students.
Assures maintenance of equipment and data storage.
Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
Ability and confidence to work independently.

Unique duties:

Qualifications:

Education Doctorate degree
Requires advanced knowledge predominantly intellectual in character in a field of science or learning acquired
by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.

Experience Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Experience performing basic research techniques, preferred. Must have distinguished themselves in research.

Preferred qualifications:

A PhD and at least two years related work experience in the area of biology and bioinformatics. Experience in the gene/protein data analytics space. Experience in microbiology and bioinformatics. Experience with large scale gene/protein data analytics and cellular-microbial interactions.
