Research Fellow in Orthopaedic Surgery, Spine Division Job at The University of Virginia

The University of Virginia Orthopaedic Surgery Department is accepting applications for a paidSpineFellowship position for 2023-2024. The goal of the research fellowship is to mentor senior medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery. Interested research fellows will have the following minimum expectations:
  • Work full-time in the Spine Division
  • Participate in the planning, protocol development, IRB approval, data collection, data analysis, manuscript preparation, manuscript and abstract submission of prospective and retrospective clinical research
  • Assist with ongoing clinical trials
  • Assist with maintaining and supporting current research projects



The research fellow will be supervised by Dr. Joshua Li, and will have the opportunity to take part in educational activities available through the department, such as daily resident conferences and journal clubs. Fellows will also have the opportunity to shadow in the clinic and operatingroom, and gain valuable clinical experience. Applicants with experience in statistics(running, managing, interpreting) are preferred/given further consideration; however, this is not mandatory.

Number of Positions Available: 1
Duration: 1 year starting mid-May 2023, but some flexibility in start date is possible.
Stipend: $30,000 per year (This is the total funding for the fellowship, and the stipend could be lower if the selected candidate opts to obtain health insurance from UVA, as the annual insurance cost will be deducted from the funding available. The cost of UVA's insurance is approximately $6,000 per year. If the selected applicant provides their own insurance, they must provide proof of insurance coverage per UVA requirements.)

Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: Prior research experience is preferred. Applicants with experience in statistics are preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
