Job Description:

Business Affairs (IT) is seeking a dedicated Research Data Consultant. This position will report to the CTO for Research Computing or a Research Computing Director or Senior Director.

Job Duties:

    Map the current landscape of Independent Research Centers and Labs reporting to the Office of the Dean of Research to understand the challenges in moving data from research instrumentation to lab members and users for use and analysis; This is a data movement pilot project, in partnership with DoR shared facilities. Working with a subset of identified labs/centers/facilities, address the ongoing problem of transporting large volumes of data from instruments to labs by Spending time with each group, in person, to understand the source(s) of their current data transport and storage problems Explore, document and, where feasible, test potential solutions to eliminate these problems. This will require business analysis approaches to understand, document and explore lab workflows, methods and needs. It will also require understanding existing campus resources and campus-accessible external platforms (for example: Google Cloud), tools (for example: Globus), and many campus partners.

Requirements:

    Client/customer-centric approach to work Diplomacy and tact in communications Excellent oral and written communication Experience working in or supporting an academic research lab or center (this could be, for example, a former graduate student who worked in their PI's lab where there were data acquired/produced through scientific instruments) Good knowledge of high-end storage and computing technologies Demonstrated ability to master new software tools and technologies Collaborative approach Strong listening skills Ability to tolerate ambiguity, nuances and uncertainty

*This is a hybrid position, with an expectation of 4-5 days per week on-site for the first 6 months, with the possibility of moving to 3 days a week on site/2 WFH in the Bay Area after 6 months depending on client needs.*
