Summary
Michigan Medicine and the VA Center for Clinical Management Research at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System are seeking a Clinical Research Assessor to support VA and NIH funded clinical trials focusing on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. These studies are conducted in community and VA settings. The community-based trial is designed to develop a stepped-care intervention for PTSD in Federally Qualified Health Centers, using a Sequential, Multiple Assignment, Randomized Trial. The VA trial is using a multiphase optimaztion strategy to identify which components of Cognitive Processing Therapy contribute meaningfully to reduction in PTSD symptoms. This project will enable us to design an empirically-based, adapted, brief format of the therapy.
Responsibilities*
The Clinical Research Assessor will be responsible for conducting clinical assessments (i.e., Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5, Diagnostic Interview for Anxiety, Mood, and OCD and Related Neuropsychiatric Disorders) to determine eligibility and outcomes for patients enrolling into trials assessing PTSD treatment effectiveness in community and VA settings. Additionally, the Assessor will complete fidelity ratings on therapy intervention recordings.
Required Qualifications*
All applicants are expected to have the following Qualifications.
- Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field.
- Experience with clinical assessments
- Experience with high-risk populations/topics: PTSD, trauma, suicide, mental health, and underserved populations, and understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Comfort discussing sensitive topics with vulnerable populations.
- Experience and comfort working in clinical settings and with the veteran population (preferred, but not required).
To be considered for the Research Area Specialist Intermediate title, applicants must also have:
- 4 - 5 years of prior research experience.
To be considered for the Research Area Specialist Associate title, applicants must also have:
- 1 or more years of prior research experience.
Desired Qualifications*
- A Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or a related field.
Ability to work independently with minimum direction and seek guidance when appropriate; adjust well to varying amounts of workload; use time efficiently; and take initiative to problem-solve.
- Knowledge of research platforms such as Qualtrics and RedCap as well as Microsoft Office Suite
- Exhibit exceptional oral and written communication
Work Schedule
Typical schedule is business hours, however, ability to flex schedule to accommodate patient schedules is required (evening and weekend appointments)

Background Screening
