Job Title: Race Department Personnel

Department: Ski Team

Reports To: Race Department Coordinator

Rate of Pay: $10.00 /hour and Season Pass

Shift: 10 hour shifts on 3 event days.


SUMMARY

Race department personnel duties include, but are not limited to Gate Judge, Runner, Volunteer Coordinator, Assistant Admin, Event Setup/Takedown, starter, crowd control, scoreboard manager, and more. This is a per event position with no set hours. Schedule of events is published in September. Training for each duty will be conducted by Ski Team coaches or Race Department Coordinator prior to events as needed.


This position includes a season pass. The employee is required to work all 3 events. If the employee does not show up to an event, the season pass is immediately cancelled.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Act as a Gate Judge. Gate judges play a pivotal part of ski races and must be trained properly and perform to a high standard on race day. They will watch each racer pass by a set number of gates to ensure that they are following the correct path and no errors are made. When an error is made, it is noted correctly with a drawing of what happened and what bib number. Training for this job will be completed prior to each race worked.

Ski or snowboard to the correct location for the task and ski to the base when finished.

Act as a Runner, taking documents or items to other race personnel.

Set up and take down events.

Assist the Administrator or Timer.

Manage the Scoreboard.

Act as the Starterwear a headset and start each racer when given the cue from the Timer.

Perform crowd control.

Support the on-mountain recycling program.

DRESS CODE

Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele. As representatives of Sundance all employees including mangers are expected to be in compliance with the Dress Code determined for his/her department as defined in the job description or follow the standards below.


In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:


All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.

Be prepared for all weather conditions and being in the elements for long periods of time. This includes a backpack with water and snacks.

Employees are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.

Clothing must be unwrinkled, clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).

Blue jeans are permitted.

Men's shirts must be tucked in.

A tailored fit is required of all clothing.

Tank tops, halter tops tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.

Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.

Bare midriffs are prohibited.

Proper footwear for your department is required.

Flip flops are prohibited in all areas.

If your department allows t-shirts, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

If your department allows baseball caps, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

If your department allows beanies, they must be in good condition and Sundance branded.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid U.S. Drivers' License in good standing as determined by Sundance's Insurance Company guidelines. Current US Ski & Snowboard Timing- Calculations Certification.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
