Salary: Entry Level: $44,352 per year, ($3,696 per month, $21.32 per hour), HE-04, BU:10

Full Performance: $47,808 per year, ($3,984 per month, $22.98 per hour), HE-06, BU:10

Hilo Medical Center is a nationally recognized CMS 5-Star hospital and is currently seeking a Psychiatric Aide-Entry Level or Full Performance for our busy Psychiatric Acute-Adult department. This position will be responsible to provide acute and adolescent psychiatric services, serve as part of the treatment team involved in planning, organizing and conducting adjunctive services (recreational and diversional activities) which involves the implementation of moderately complex therapeutic procedures and the application of various techniques in patent care services, provide a variety of personal care and nursing services to patients in the unit and perform other related duties as assigned.

Hilo is located on the east side of the island of Hawaii also known as the Big Island. We have a quaint old-Hawaiian, small town atmosphere with diverse terrains and many places to explore. Hilo is close to the airport, shopping areas, beaches and parks. It is home to the Hawaii Community College, University of Hawaii, and the Hawaii Volcano National Park. The hospital staff is community-oriented.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE ENTRY LEVEL
EXPERIENCE AND ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: One (1) year of work experience in a hospital or other medically oriented institution or program where the primary or basic objective was to observe and report on a variety of physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions and implement care and/or treatment procedures for a caseload of patients. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of basic spoken and written English; basic nursing skills (i.e., taking vital signs, measuring output, recognition of abnormal signs and symptoms, etc.); patients’ rights; infection control; body mechanics; basic medical and nursing terminology; and the ability to read, write, speak and understand English; learn and apply general behavioral and psychiatric principles; establish effective therapeutic relationships with psychiatric patients; follow directions; keep appropriate records; and analyze situations accurately and take effective action.

PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE FULL PERFORMANCE LEVEL
EXPERIENCE AND ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: In addition to the qualifications required at the entry level, one (1) year of work experience in a mental health facility/unit which involved learning and performing selected therapeutic activities under the supervision of a qualified professional. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of behavioral characteristics associated with various types of mental health problems; general behavioral and psychiatric procedures; mental health principles and techniques involved in the care and treatment of individuals or groups of mentally ill patients; intervention and de-escalation techniques; common side effects of psychiatric medications; and the ability to assist and participate in the activities of the treatment team; and independently provide adjunctive services (recreational and diversional activities) to a caseload of psychiatric patients.

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application.

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS, BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS (SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7).

MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
