Position Overview:
The Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, facilitating, and monitoring programs, activities, events, special classes, etc., for our target demographic of ages 18-24 year olds that promote a high level of interest in current and potential participants. These activities should give special emphasis on employment, academics, and occupational skills as well as supportive areas. The Program Coordinator develops and implements activities in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Westside YO Center (WYOCC) and use of career interest and other assessments to determine programming. The Program Coordinator works closely with program management, program staff, community members and others to develop new strategies, initiatives, events, and other efforts that increase program enrollment, engagement and retention
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement and provide oversight of outreach and engagement strategies to increase program participation, number of new enrollments and solicit and strengthen community engagement at the WYOC;
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and liaise regularly with various agencies and departments, internally and externally, to plan, develop, and execute events, topic panels, special classes, presentations, extracurricular activities with the goal of increasing new participant enrollment, increasing participant retention, and other program goals;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the WYOC Program Manager to develop programs and services that are responsive to and reflective of the mission of WYOC program as well as the needs and interests of program participants as
  • Develop and sustain relationships with external stakeholders, including but not limited to city agencies, community based organizations, advocacy networks, and the faith-based community to further participant and community engagement efforts;
  • Build knowledge, establish relationships, and maintain collaborative efforts with community partners serving WYOC’s target population;
  • Represent the WYOC at community events, partner meetings, etc. and serve as the primary coordinator for all engagement activities inside and outside of the Westside Youth Opportunity Center;
  • Track outcomes of all efforts through pre-/post- surveys and assist with internal and external reports to inform future initiatives; evaluate and make necessary modifications to program offerings;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Establish relationship with, engage, motivate, support, lead, and sometimes supervise youth participants using positive values, ethical behavior and unconditional positive regard
  • Prepare data as required for submittal of monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills (English required?)
  • Experience in project management
  • Understand the concept youth development
  • Very strong organizational skills and highly detail-oriented
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including youth, staff, service providers, businesses, and other external partners
  • Ability to effectively collect and analyze data, present findings and recommend viable options for addressing problems/ challenges
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; and
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications (i.e., MS Office Suite: Word and Excel) and project management applications
  • Experience with Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) case management software preferred
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and/or three years of workforce development, youth or related fields.
