Director of Survey - Professional Land Surveyor

A|I|DATA is the largest Maryland-based Subsurface Utility Engineering firm currently providing SUE services in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and wherever our clients need to know what’s underground on their project sites. In addition, the firm currently provides limited land surveying services to select clients.

We offer an opportunity for an entrepreneurial Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead our surveying team, to expand its capabilities, and to grow its capacity. The ideal candidate will bring a commitment to excellence in the delivery of all professional work products with a high degree of client-focused service and in the development of the team. We are seeking a technical expert with leadership and management skills.

The key responsibilities of the Director of Surveying span from technical to managerial to strategic and include the following:

• Staffing - Work with SUE Operations Project Managers to coordinate work within the survey team and to support the SUE operations of the firm. Play a key role in recruiting and developing survey team members, provide performance feedback, and evaluate compensation adjustments and bonuses.
• Project management – Prepare and manage project proposals including scoping, authorization for services, budgets, reports, and invoices. Monitor the financial performance of the survey team.
• Technical oversight – Develop/implement standards and check the technical accuracy of work. Research, assist in, or make recommendations on the purchasing of equipment and/or software needed by the department. Contribute to the improvement of the CAD and mapping capabilities of the firm.
• Client management and attendance at meetings – Be consultant to client.
• Work closely with the company owner to set goals and business objectives for the survey team (staffing, growth, performance marks, etc.).
• Participate in business development efforts and work with the marketing team to achieve results/goals.
• Actively participate in management meetings and leadership development programs, as requested.

Job requirements of the ideal candidate are:

• B.S. Surveying or related field preferred
• Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in MD at a minimum with additional professional licenses in Virginia and Washington, DC desired.
• Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills
• Active participant in national, state, or local professional surveying organizations
• Prior project and client management experience for both the private and public sectors
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation preferred along with knowledge of state mapping standards
• Knowledge of GIS services/ESRI a plus
• Proficiency with RTK GPS surveys and Robotic Total Stations
• Experience with drone mapping a plus
• Experience with laser scanning preferred
• Experience with Trimble Field-to-Finish equipment and software
• Familiarity with SUE practices
• Valid driver's license

Annual Salary Range: $105,000 - $150,000
