Job Description:
Grief-Taylors Paperboard is an essential manufacturer of 100% Recycled Paper Board used in the Corrugated and Industrial Packaging Industries.
This opening is for the Paper Machine Superintendent position at the Greif Taylors paperboard mill. In the role, you will have overall responsibility for the personnel, safety, environmental impact, quality, cost, and performance for the paper machine department. This position will require occasional overtime as dictated by operational needs. The Production Superintendent will be part of the mill’s weekend coverage rotation.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct paper machine daily operations in a safe and orderly manner to achieve quality and productivity goals.
  • Conduct all safety, quality, production incident investigations for the area and administer discipline when appropriate.
  • Responsible for ensuring colleagues are following all safety rules and standard operating procedures. This includes maintaining housekeeping standards in Stock Prep and in the PM1 Paper Machine department.
  • Coordinate production activities with production planning, maintenance, and the quality department to obtain optimum production and utilization of personnel, machines, and equipment.
  • Partner with the mill maintenance teams to ensure efficient troubleshooting, planning, and execution of routine repairs for the stock prep, paper machine, and winder areas
  • Oversee planning, scheduling, and execution of mill clothing, washups and maintenance outages for stock prep, paper machine, and winder areas.
  • Provide input and oversight for annual outage planning and coordination, ensure the annual outage for area of responsibility is completed on time and within budget
  • Review and analyze production reports to determine opportunity areas and implement solutions for production problems and nonconformity with product specifications
  • Revise production schedules and priorities as needed because of equipment failure, operating problems, or last-minute customer demands
  • Responsible for managing new hourly colleague safety and production training along with 30-60-90-day reviews for new colleagues.
  • Manage payroll, vacation schedules, IDPs, and performance reviews for hourly and salary colleagues. Establish individual and group goals, evaluate work performance for direct reports, and review and approve performance evaluations for indirect reports.
  • Responsible for managing the mill’s chemical, wet felts, and core inventories. The Superintendent will lead or coordinate all trials in stock prep and on the paper machine
  • Participate or lead mill-wide improvement initiatives including RCPS teams.

Education and Experience

  • Typically possesses a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 8 or more years of relevant experience.

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of stock prep and papermaking. Cylinder machine experience a plus.
  • Previous experience in coaching, training, teambuilding, performance development, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to go up and down ladders and steps
  • Ability to work weekends and holiday when on call
  • Computer Skills - Kronos, ParcView experience a plus
