IMA Life offers engineered solutions for its world-wide customer base. The Global Engineering team located in Tonawanda, NY is integral to providing these solutions for customers looking for state of the art freeze dryers for the pharmaceutical industry. The Product Safety Engineer position is key to achieving these solutions for our customers.

PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Administering a consistent and cohesive product safety policy across IMA Life Tonawanda, Dongen, and Beijing design and manufacturing sites in line with IMA Life Corporate Policies.

2. Reviewing inherent capability of equipment to create harm through transfer of mechanical, thermal, chemical, biological, or radiation energy. Participates, audits, monitors project design safety reviews.

3. In case of product safety incidents, assist with investigating and handling the incident and assuring that changes to product standards and/or operational processes are implemented when necessary. Reporting incident investigation findings.

4. Use project team risk assessment tools (including FMEA). Actively participate in institutionalizing into organization.

5. Recommending procedures for detection, prevention, and elimination of physical, chemical, or other product hazards.

6. Developing solutions to minimize or prevent recurrence of accidents, injuries, or illnesses related to product usage.

7. Consistently observe and promote SHEQ site requirements for self, department, and all contractors, visitors, and guests.

8. Assist in the identification, development, where necessary, and documentation of departmental work processes and instructions, including flow diagrams and written descriptions.

9. Facilitate feedback initiative including assisting with the development of the Lessons Learned process and database. Ensure that root causes are correctly identified and corrective and preventative measures are implemented.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Discipline

2. Knowledge of product liability issues. Functional Safety certification recommended.

3. Experienced, resolute and analytical person with a broad technical background, preferably in industrial process equipment.

4. Understanding of European and US product safety requirements such as pressure vessels codes, CE marking, Machinery Directive, PED and ATEX.

5. Negotiation skills.

6. Should have the ability to influence organization through leadership and informal power.

7. Well organized and self-motivated with ability to schedule own workload as well as contributing parties to meet deadlines.

8. Experience and skill as technical liaison with vendors and customer in both written and verbal forms.

9. Strong communication skills with internal and external personnel.

10. Sensitivity to the cultural differences of an international environment.

11. Strong knowledge of MS Office applications.

12. Knowledge of machine design, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, motor controls and aseptic process machine production.

13. Strong troubleshooting skills.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

1. Overtime as needed.

2. Travel as needed, national and international up to 20%

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
