GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing, the staff RN will be responsible for the overall care of the clients/individuals at the Crisis Residential Unit (CRU). The CRU is a 16-bed facility that provides services to individuals with mental health and substance abuse needs on a short-term basis.

Using compassion and caring, the RN will:

· Conduct nursing assessments and carry out treatment orders per the medical team of physicians or tele-health providers.

· Work with clients/individuals and staff to ensure that the clients are receiving appropriate services for both mental and medical healthcare while admitted to the CRU.

· Provide medication education, training, and support to patients and their families.

· Conduct daily assessments of clients’ progress regarding their treatment regimen and their medication regimen.

· Be responsible for reporting any pertinent information or findings to the attending MD that may affect the client’s physical or mental status.

· Provide guidance for the direct care staff to ensure a safe and therapeutic treatment atmosphere.

· Work closely with the LPHA and the Wood Group staff to facilitate meeting the needs and goals of all the consumers at the CRU as per Camino Real policy.

· Camino Real Community Services practices the principles of trauma-informed care and requires that all employees be trained in this area.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:

RN with diploma or Associate Degree in nursing and 4 years of recent nursing experience as a registered nurse in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility. Recent nursing experience within the past 3 years. This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts, if necessary, to be available to work overtime, and have rotating days off. Applicant must live within one hour of the CRU due to response requirements.

· Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas without restrictions or limitations.

· Work experience using Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and Power Point.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience in the mental health field as well as experience in a community and inpatient setting.

· Experience with using an EMR.

· Experience with nursing care and management of chronic health conditions.

· Prefer experience with the Integrated Behavioral Health Primary Care concept.

· English/Spanish skills; demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.

· Prefer experience with a psychiatric inpatient program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Ability to work independently, to organize work efficiently, to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

· Knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with mental illness and substance abuse.

· Extensive skill in individual needs assessment and the ability to respond to the changing needs of the individual and the ability to work in a crisis.

· Ability to work effectively with other professionals, individuals and groups, exercise good judgment when dealing with people.

· Ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and the ability to work in a stressful environment.
