POSITION SUMMARY

This position’s primary responsibilities include all aspects of portfolio management as relates to assigned SBA portfolio loans together with structuring loans and cross selling of Bank products and services to Small Business Administration (SBA) eligible small and medium sized businesses. Additional responsibilities will include the preparation of comprehensive SBA Loan Offering Analyses that evaluate the prospective financing properties, incorporating complex underwriting to include cash flow analysis, project economics and valuation, guarantor analysis, market analysis and recommendation. The loan analyses include verifying borrower eligibility for SBA financing and in depth knowledge of the SBA regulations and guidelines in order to protect the Bank’s SBA guarantee. The position requires knowledge of the SBA 7a and 504 products. Assists in the processing of approval memos for loan modifications and verifying that the modifications comply with all SBA Servicing and Liquidation guidelines. Position may require mentoring other SBA Portfolio Managers.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs portfolio management responsibilities including:
    • Utilizes a strong knowledge of SBA policies and procedures to protect the validity of the SBA guarantee while structuring new SBA loans and servicing/modifying existing SBA loans.
    • Verify borrower eligibility with all SBA guidelines and regulations
    • Perform initial interviews with customers to explain the SBA products and structure loans
    • Solicits existing portfolio customers in an effort to increase and retain loan volume and cross sell Bank products and services.
    • Transaction negotiation and preparation of SBA Loan Offering Analysis of modifications and new business transactions; facilitates closing of the transaction.
    • Performs continued Delinquency Control.
    • Prepares annual reviews of existing loans to access credit quality and covenant compliance; performs property inspections.
    • Promotes customer relations.
  • Prepares Loan Offering Analyses, which include the following:
    • Credit packages, deal discussions, and initial underwriting
    • Detailed property descriptions and market analysis.
    • Detailed analysis of financial statements.
    • Project economics, income and expense analysis, tenancy analysis, and property valuations and discounted cash flow models.
    • Construction budget analysis with determination of sources and uses of funds.
    • Borrower and Guarantor analysis.
    • Assess lending risks, clearly identify offsetting mitigates and summarize recommendations
    • Maintains close liaison with the bank’s attorney to coordinate and attend loan closings.
    • Prepares modification memos for post-closing servicing actions and modifications
    • Works closely with the borrower to resolve any issues that may occur from time to time.
  • Complete special projects as directed by the department head.
  • Participate in SBA training and webinars

SKILLS AND TRAINING

  • Knowledge and understanding of the SBA SOP, network, procedures, products and overall SBA processes and policies.
  • Financial analysis experience.
  • Loan analysis experience in respective discipline.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel & Argus), financial analysis programs and discounted cash flow models.
  • Strong customer services skills.
  • Knowledge of current SBA policy, general loan standards, loan review administration and banking/OCC procedures, while being an independent thinker that can maintain the department and portfolio without constant supervision.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree preferred in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration

WORK EXPERIENCE

2 years’ minimum relevant SBA operations experience
