Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Physician Specialist, Option C for the Chester Mental Health Center located in Chester, Illinois to serve as an Illinois licensed physician, providing a full range of psychiatric/medical assessments and treatments to patients on an assigned unit on an assigned shift. Prescribes and reviews medical and psychiatric treatment modalities. Conducts physical examinations, makes rounds, checks reports and charts. Participates in admissions, transfers and discharges. Performs and records psychiatric evaluations and maintains files or progress notes. Provides support and expertise to staff in dealing with patients. Serves as an active and contributing member or chair of assigned center committees.

Job Responsibilities

  • As an Illinois licensed physician, provides a full range of psychiatric/medical assessments and treatments to patients at Chester Mental Health Center on an assigned unit on an assigned shift.
  • Performs and records psychiatric evaluations and maintains files or progress notes of the patients’ status as it relates to a psychiatric practice.
  • Provides support and expertise to staff in dealing with patients.
  • Provides clinical information and guidance to other clinicians.
  • Serves as an active and contributing member or chair of assigned center committees, staff meetings, teaching conferences and clinical committees.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the above enumerated duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and completion of an approved residency in psychiatry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience evaluating the quality of specialized medical care and treatment for patients with a mental illness.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience coordinating medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience conducting psychiatric exams of patients.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience identifying most appropriate positive treatment regime and carrying out that treatment in accordance with best practices.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience preparing comprehensive and specialized medical records and reports.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires a Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) certificate.
  • Requires ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Requires ability to testify in court.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
