SUMMARY
Physician Assistant will be supporting a large medical support services program that is responsible for providing frontline medical care support and health care services for persons of all ages, to include infants, children, adults, and pregnant females.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following:

  • Provides direct care within their scope of practice to patients, including children, pregnant women, and adults, to include emergency and urgent care.
  • Performs vital signs electronically and manually, as indicated.
  • Consults with the Supervising Physician, Physician, or Pediatric Advisor for complex medical, pediatric, or psychiatric patients, completes orders recommended/authorized by the physician.
  • Performs history and physical assessment, behavioral health care, minor outpatient procedures, patient education, and refers any care beyond the scope of the medical unit to local medical facilities emergency departments or urgent care centers.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy of medical records, complies with HIPAA regulations, performs record keeping functions in accordance with program policies and the system of records management.
  • Ability to properly use equipment and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Participates in disease surveillance activities and public health and epidemiology studies/efforts, as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY
No supervisory or management authority.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Must hold an active an unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Physician Assistant in state in which duty will be performed.
  • Must have and maintain an unrestricted Registered Nurse license and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license valid in the state in which duty will be performed.
  • Board Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Certification, Pediatric Nursing (PCNB) Certification, National Certification Corporation (NCC) certification, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), or the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) is required.
  • A minimum of one-year of full-time experience providing services as a licensed Physician Assistant in an in-patient environment.
  • Experience in detention/correctional healthcare, ambulatory care, or a pediatric care setting encouraged, but not required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency with computer and common office equipment, as well as with MS Office products required.
  • Strong organization, planning and communication skills.
  • Experience with applications of medical principles, clinical procedures, and techniques.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills to develop a rapport with patients and co-workers during which instructional and educational information is presented or shared.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • US Citizenship required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work will be performed primarily in secured federal facilities environment. Travel may be required if not local to work site.
