Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Permitting Specialist in our Pacific Northwest Region which includes offices in Redmond, WA and Portland, OR. This position has a flexible office/remote schedule with office days discussed with the hiring manager. The successful candidate will participate as part of a team of technical professionals working on renewable energy (primarily hydroelectric) projects in the PNW and California. There may also be opportunities for other projects across the U.S. and Canada.

Salary: $80,000-$115,000/year (based on experience)

Who You Are

A regulatory professional holding a bachelor's degree with major coursework in natural resources management, planning, public policy, recreation planning, wildlife ecology, and environmental science.

Knowledgeable: 7+ years of direct experience preparing environmental documents such as state and federal (SEPA/CEQA/NEPA) impact evaluations as well as permit application development is required. You have an advanced understanding of relevant environmental regulations and regulatory permitting processes at both the federal and state level. Experience includes preparing permit application packages for the following federal agencies: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA Fisheries, U.S. Forest Service, and state agencies such as WA Department of Fish and Wildlife, WA Department of Ecology, OR Department of Environmental Quality, OR Department of State Lands, and CA State Water Quality Control Board. You are familiar with Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act; and Sections 7 and 10 of the Endangered Species Act.

Relationship-focused: Effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to interact with a diverse group of agency personnel, colleagues, and stakeholders. A team player who is comfortable presenting to clients and stakeholders as well as reviewing the work of others.

Detail-oriented: You are well organized, responsive, and pay attention to details. You can prepare documents that are clear and concise. You work well independently and are experienced in successfully completing tasks with competing deadlines.

Additional Requirements

  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States and able to acquire authorization to work in Canada
  • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license

About the Position

Day-to-day tasks will vary, but typically will include leading and assisting project specific permitting and regulatory compliance efforts, including project scoping, review of environmental regulations; writing and summarizing environmental, scientific, and engineering data; coordinating and attending meetings with clients, resource agencies and contractors; and assisting with project schedule development and budget planning.
