Patient Service Representative - Primary Care Clinic Job at Ottumwa Regional Health Center

  • Greets and registers patients. Verifies current patient demographic and insurance information; scans insurance card(s) and driver’s license into Athena.
  • Verifies patient has completed and signed Patient Registration Form (Assignment of Benefits), Acknowledgement of Receipt of Privacy Notice, Consent for Medical Treatment and HIPAA and Patient Alternative Communication Form; scans signed and completed forms into Athena.
  • Verifies patient has received a HIPAA Privacy Notice.
  • Verifies co-pay amount and reviews outstanding patient balances. Requests payment from patient for co-pays and outstanding balances. Records all payments on daily spreadsheet.
  • Reviews and checks insurance eligibility on patients a minimum of two (2) days in advance of appointment.
  • Processes incoming or outgoing referrals in a timely fashion and in accordance to practice policies and procedures.
  • Schedules new and return appointments; explains registration process and gives directions to new patients; may explain procedure preparation to patients.
  • Reviews workflow dashboard and completes necessary tasks.
  • Follows end of day procedures for appointments, financial reconciliation and deposits.
  • Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner; takes messages; directs calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Maintains daily and monthly logs as required (daily compliance checklist, payment spreadsheet, cleaning).
  • Processes and routes incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Provides coverage at other clinics when/if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to organize and coordinate patient information
  • Ability to be flexible and function under stressful situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Appropriate telephone etiquette as well as interpersonal skills to interact with providers, staff and patients.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology helpful.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

  • Preferably a minimum of one year experience in a medical office setting
  • Experience with medical billing or insurance preferred
