This opportunity is for a full-time Patient Advocate offering full benefits and a convenient weekday schedule.

Our 164-bed inpatient services for adolescents through senior adulthood offers comprehensive and individual assessments, psychiatric evaluation and medication stabilization, daily group therapy and personalized aftercare planning. We also offer a Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program to ensure the continuum of care for our patients. Old Vineyard is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. What does the Patient Advocate do at Old Vineyard?
The Patient Advocate acts as advocate for all patients and their families/guardians. Resolving complaints by listening to patients and their families; directing complainants to supervisor, therapist, nurse, physician, or other appropriate parties; helping them present facts to the hospital representative; developing acceptable resolutions; following-up on outcomes throughout the patient's hospital stay. The Patient Advocate directs any education and/or individual care planning needed to support patient welfare with unit staff. Actively participates in Patient Rights Committee evaluating policies and processes for improvement and suggesting changes to support patient rights. Maintains and reports grievance data to Patient Rights Committee as well as Process/Performance Improvement Committee.


Qualifications


Education: Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.

Experience:
If no BS/BA, must have minimum five years experience in direct patient care setting or human services field. If BS/BA, must have a minimum of two years experience in direct patient care setting or human services field.

Licensure/Certification:
None required.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in North Carolina Patient Rights.
  • Able to work collaboratively, diplomatically, and with integrity in problem identification and problem-solving activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ethical principles and grievance resolution in a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Strong facilitation skills with proven ability in leading and facilitating teams to desired outcomes.
  • Effective interpersonal skills necessary to cultivate relationships with all hospital employees and communicate, facilitate, and negotiate with a wide variety of healthcare personnel, patients, and families.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise appropriate action and good business judgement.
  • Demonstrates the ability to execute complaint resolution based on regulatory requirements and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates initiative, flexibility, integrity and diplomacy.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with database systems.
  • Skilled at multi-tasking, time management and organization.
Physical Requirements:
Requires sufficient body mobility to accomplish essential functions. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel with ease. Requires walking and standing often. Requires frequently speaking on the telephone. Able to write legibly and grammatically to convey patient behavior and information in the patient chart. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Communicating fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing in English. Ability to perform CPI physical, verbal and non-verbal techniques. Ability to appropriately interact with all program staff, patients, visitors, families, attending physicians, and other department representatives.
