SUMMARY:

Promotes Bookstore sales by providing high quality customer service; demonstrates knowledge of products and services; is responsive to customer needs. Works efficiently as a team member, taking initiative to perform tasks, resolve problems and ensure a successful outcome.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May include cashiering or working on the sales floor.
  • Greets customers and offers assistance according to standard procedures.
  • Answers inquiries, provides information and interacts with customers according to established guidelines.
  • Answers telephone inquiries and correctly reroutes calls when appropriate.
  • May be responsible for a cash drawer and process cash and credit card transactions on a sales floor register.
  • May assist in the stocking/replenishment of bookstore inventory.
  • Maintains clean work area and equipment.
  • Uses interpersonal skills to build customer confidence.
  • Maintains positive working relationship with customers, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Observes all safety and company rules and regulations in the performance of duties.
  • Assists other departments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

HS or GED equivalent is required; one year retail/customer service experience is preferred. Related experience and/or training or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Strong communication and interpersonal skill are required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Requires the ability to effectively communicate with customers and employees using correct English and a well-modulated voice. Requires good voice quality that is conversational and professional.


MATHEMATIC SKILLS:

Requires basic math skills with the ability to count in ascending or descending order. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide.


REASONING ABILITY:

Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instruction.


MANUAL DEXTERITY:

Requires the ability to use a variety of equipment such as a cash register, a phone, a computer and a calculator. Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be physically able to operate cash registers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand for prolonged hours; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials up to 35 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral visions, distance vision, and color vision.


PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION:

Must have the ability to talk (expressing and/or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words) and hear (perceiving sounds of nature by ear). Physical appearance presented to the public and internal employees must be professional.


WORK CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS:

Work is regularly performed in both a traditional office setting and open sales floor workspace. There may be exposure to airborne particles created from incoming boxes, merchandise and textbooks. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

A background check must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a full-time, part-time non-student, or sensitive student position with Aztec Shops Ltd.
