What You’ll Do

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for the design and development of innovative packages, line extensions and retail solutions, consistent with Munchkin brands aesthetics, delivering superior industry packaging and unboxing experiences. This role pays close considerations to all aspects of packaging, inside and out, to ensure Munchkin products are perceived as best in their category, building brand loyalty and awareness, improving retail presence and increasing distribution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Development of innovative packaging solutions, corrugated displays, & protective / supportive package inserts for a variety of consumer goods, working closely with development teams to understand and translate the marketing and promotional strategy into finished packages.
  • Work through all phases of package development including: design conception, engineering, specification, and testing of structural packaging components, modifying as necessary to take into account product fit, structural form, material needs, cost targets, manufacturability, retail environment, storage and transportation requirements.
  • Responsible for generating accurate, well-detailed engineering drawings and dielines for release to graphic design and production teams; creating and maintaining detailed package specification packets for turnover to cost, engineering and packaging suppliers to meet cost objectives and quality management goals; generation of physical package prototypes for internal approvals, sales presentations, and global development support.
  • Collaborate and communicate with various global teams, as well as external partners to define packaging requirements, material specifications and track project priorities.
  • Manage complex projects and deliver innovative solutions within the appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of new developments in packaging industry technologies.

Bring It!

  • S. Degree in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, or similar
  • Prefer 1-2 years structural packaging design experience in consumer packaged goods;
  • Confident presentation skills and able to communicate ideas via drawings, renderings and/or physical prototypes.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of packaging production/manufacturing processes and techniques, as well as various packaging materials.
  • Familiar with the operation of packaging rapid prototyping machinery (Kongsberg or equivalent, CNC milling, etc). Understanding of package testing processes / equipment (ASTM / ISTA standard packaging testing) preferred.
  • Must be well versed in the use of 2D package dieline development software (i.e. ArtiosCAD) and a working knowledge of 3D engineering software (i.e. Solidworks).
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and strong understanding of Graphic design concepts as they relate to package structural design.
  • Good communication and team work skills. Detail oriented, with strong organizational, project management, problem solving and time-management skills. Able to work well under pressure within tight deadlines.

Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000 annually
