Ophthalmic Emergency Department Attending Physician Job at Wills Eye Hospital
Primary Function:
- Provides clinical and administrative support to the Wills Eye Emergency Department (ED). This position works collaboratively with Jefferson physician and nursing staff. Additionally, participates in interdepartmental and interdisciplinary relationships to assure collaboration and effective/efficient operations within the ED.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the Director of the ED to achieve Wills Eye's strategic goals and objectives.
- Treats a diverse patient population, across gender, age and ethnicity irrespective of insurance status.
- Performs ophthalmologic examinations, prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of evaluation and treatment.
- Maintains expert skills in EMR and provides training to ED team.
- Provides education to resident/fellow team as well as medical students on:
- Medical documentation
- ED workflow
- Contributes to a learning environment by providing educational and research experiences to students, residents, fellows and faculty.
- Creates an environment that encourages diverse opinions, recognizes differences and incorporates into processes and services.
- Respects and protects patients' rights to confidentiality and privacy. Discloses information only for professional purposes in the patients' best interest with full consideration of their legal rights.
- This position has the ability to perform surgical procedures (i.e. ruptured globes, periorbital trauma) as needed at Wills Eye Hospital as recognized in the ED. Open to consider other surgical opportunities according to desire and training such as cataract.
- Coordinates extensively with the Wills Eye Hospital Inpatient Unit on admissions and rounding on Ophthalmology inpatients.
