Job Objective

Courteously and efficiently assist customers who come to the Landscape Inspiration Center, telephone or email the company; work on other tasks and projects as assigned.

Job Summary

Essential Functions:

Welcome customers to the Landscape Inspiration Center following documented processes and procedures.

    • Professionally inquire as to need.
    • Answer questions, where applicable, or filter customer into one of the paths of the Sales Process.

Manage the retail nursery customer queueing system following documented processes and procedures.


Assist customers on the telephone in a courteous, helpful manner following documented processes and procedures.

    • Participate in the development, documentation, and refinement of telephone call handling processes.

Check out customers and process transactions following documented processes and procedures.

    • Greet/thank customers at the beginning and end of each transaction.
    • Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction.
    • Offer customers the opportunity to participate in our Gardener’s Advantage program if they are not already doing so.
    • Follow all computer/register protocols and procedures.

Review and respond to email in the Retail Nursery account; forward emails to the sales team for response, follow up and/or fulfillment as required following documented processes and procedures.


Maintain the Landscape Inspiration Center following documented processes and procedures.

    • Ensure that an appropriate supply of handouts and pamphlets are available.
    • Ensure an appropriate amount of merchandise is in displays.
    • Sweeping and clean the glass and desks as needed.

Update/maintain various spreadsheets and/or other tracking/measurement tools as required.


Provide customer service.

    • Cheerfully greet customers.
    • Assist customers by answering questions and directing them.
    • Assist cashiers with merchandise pricing questions.

Participate in sales and product knowledge training.

    • Monthly store meetings, Facts Forums, and other information and training opportunities.
    • Ask questions of experts to gain knowledge.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to readily learn and use various computer software packages that may be new to you
  • Comfort with electronic equipment (e.g. cash register, scanners, etc.)
  • Attention to detail and mathematical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, in person and on the telephone
  • Able to write a professional letter/email with clarity
  • Able to maintain calmness and efficiency during busy times

Position Preferences

  • Horticultural knowledge/interest in gardening
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish

Work Requirements

  • Regular physical activity required, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
