SEEKING NURSE AIDE STUDENTS FOR FULL NURSE AIDE SCHOLARSHIP (spaces limited).

Nursing students will receive a fully paid scholarship for Nurse Aide training, will earn a competitive salary while attending classes and working with our residents, and will be eligible for our complete benefits package pending certification. During training students will become acclimated to the healthcare culture by partnering with non-clinical departments. This opportunity is made possible by donors to Westminster Canterbury Foundation and our partnership with Dominion Health Education Center. Part time position will work up to 29 hours per week.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
    • Under the supervision of health professionals employed on the unit, assist in making beds
    • Assist in passing ice
    • Assist with hydration rounds
    • Assist in passing meal trays
    • Maintain resident safety and report any change in status or condition to appropriate nurse
    • Observe residents for changes in condition in mood, behavior, affect, cognition and physical changes and
    report to nurse in charge and/or manager immediately
    • Under Supervision of instructor, learn to use and observe the use of new technologies, including tools,
    equipment, methods of application, computerized systems and processes, etc., to impact productivity of
    department and services
    • Ensure quality resident centered care
    • Assist dining staff during meal time
    • Additional duties as assigned
    EQUIPMENT:
    • Computer, including medical documentation systems
    • Wheelchair
    • Scales

    • Hot/Cold Packs
    • Showers/spa tubs
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Able to lift 25 pounds without assistance, 26+ pounds with manual or mechanical assistance
    • Ability to walk, stand, reach, bend and squat frequently
    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
    • Competent to assist in providing nursing and/or nursing related services
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Alert, aware and observant of resident needs
    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • High School Diploma or equivalency
    • Enrolled in Nurse Aide Course
    DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Previous experience in area of long term care
    • Experience working with cognitively impaired residents/patients
    • Previous experience with resident centered care
    REQUIRED BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES:
    • Act as an advocate for residents, staff, and others and treats others with respect
    • Positive attitude and initiative
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Ability to work as a team as well as independently
