JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a designated team leader, the Network Administrator 1 or 2 will provide complex technical support including installation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem solving in support of the University’s Telecommunications environment.

This position will provide domain competency and technical support in network system administration; confers with technical leadership in research, evaluation, and identification of technology solutions; and provide domain competency and technical support in the administration of the University's wired and wireless network and voice services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports network operations including installation, provisioning, operating, tuning, upgrading, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of wired and wireless network systems.
  • Ensure stable performance for the wired and wireless network environments through performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Identifies and resolves system errors. Consults with technicians and other users to resolve problems with wired and wireless network systems.
  • Develops and implements scripts to assist with automation and efficiencies.
  • Works with systems integration issues including activities associated with wired and wireless network technology.
  • Supports senior technical personnel with installation, upgrade, and maintenance of network systems.
  • Uses standard diagnostic techniques to analyze, identify and solve problems.
  • Create and maintain documentation about technical and usage procedures and methodologies.
  • Participate effectively as a team member on technical projects.
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks outside of normal business hours on a planned or unplanned (emergency) basis.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Additional Job Duties for Network Admin 2

  • Develop written requirements, statements of work, and testing procedures for deployment of network systems, voice, and collaboration services.
  • Coordinates education and generates end-user documentation.
  • Performs needs analysis for network and voice service development with end users and stakeholders.
  • Writes scripts and/or basic programs to assist with the automation and management of collaboration and network systems.
  • Implements new system hardware configurations.
  • Establishes and monitors all aspects of interfaces with other systems and subsystems; works closely with other systems administrators on all matters involving the integration of systems.
  • Develops plans and processes to ensure the availability of services or systems.
  • Documents procedures required for end-user and administrative use of the systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree in computer science or related discipline and four years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline and two years of experience, or six years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of scripting languages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of wired and wireless network technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven presentation skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines and working under pressure.

Additional Minimum Qualifications for Network Administrator 2

  • Associate's degree in computer science or related discipline and six years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline and four years of experience, or eight years of related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Cisco collaboration and Unified Communications systems and endpoints.
  • Working experience with Python scripting language.
  • Working experience with wired and wireless networking technologies and protocols.

Additional Preferred Qualifications for Network Administrator 2

  • Working experience with design and administration Cisco Unified Communications Manager.
  • Working experience with Cisco Emergency Responder and related services and applications.
  • Working experience with Cisco Contact Center Express queue design, configuration, and administration.
  • Experience working with telecommunications carriers and service providers in provisioning and managing voice services.
  • Working experience with network service appliances providing DNS, DHCP, IPAM services, and load balancers and firewalls.
  • Working experience with Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Wireless Controllers, and Identity Services Engine.
  • Working experience with network monitoring systems and applications.
  • Microsoft Teams Voice design, configuration, and administration.
  • Ability to work effectively with vendors, staff, and users at all levels.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month, permanent position. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. The salary range for the Network Administrator 1 is $61,302 to $79,693. The salary range for the Network Administrator 2 is $76,897 to $99,966. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
