We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

Official position description:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled general labor & preventative maintenance functions of indoor/outdoor facilities, grounds &/or equipment (e.g., minor painting, minor electrical repair, rough plumbing, carpentry, masonry): assist higher level staff with semi-skilled & skilled labor & maintenance functions; assist with minor electrical (e.g., replaces lights bulbs, repair/replace short circuits, electrical panels, breaker boxes, service lines & outlets, switches, light fixtures) & plumbing (e.g., hot water heaters, trap fittings, showerheads, drinking fountains, faucets, toilets, urinals, sinks, replaces washers & faucets) repairs & maintenance; performs semi-skilled carpentry (e. g., repairs wooden structures, frames & hangs windows & doors, docks & steps, builds & repairs picnic tables); assist with masonry work (e.g., scrapes & paints, mortar repair, roof shingle replacement, cement walkways, stone & block drinking fountain & entrance signs, foundations, concrete pads & block building); performs & assist with grounds maintenance duties (e.g., snow removal from roads & parking lots, mows grass, picks up trash, liter, debris & brush cleanup from storms or removal of hazardous trees, clean restrooms); operates machine tools & equipment in the semi-skilled equipment list; monitors &/or observes facilities, grounds & equipment for safety &/or maintenance needs & takes appropriate action; transports staff, equipment & supplies throughout assigned work areas; applies chemicals under license of commercial applicator or limited commercial applicator (e.g., insecticides, fertilizers); operates watercraft to place buoy's on lake; assist in repairing, maintaining & monitoring of water &/or sewage treatment plants; performs routine maintenance & makes minor vehicle & equipment repairs (e.g., oil changes, lubrications, tune-ups, tire or belt changes, sharpens blades).

Provides general customer services &/or support for facilities & grounds (e.g., contacts vendors, answers visitor questions, provides directions, assists at special events, aides in emergencies): resolves routine issues with approval &/or within established guidelines (e.g., customer complaints, vendor issues); completes & maintains appropriate documentation on vehicles & equipment (e.g., maintenance records & logs); prepares & processes reports (e.g., repair & maintenance reports); monitors &/or purchases supplies for adequate inventory; drives to areas of the park, district & state to perform job duties (e.g., attend conferences, meetings, training, run errands, drive to field locations.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO RE-MAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT:
Positions responsible for application of regulated chemicals must receive instruction from commercial applicator or limited commercial applicator in proper use of equipment & all pesticides with which employee is to work per Ohio Revised Code 921.01 (VV); positions operating watercraft must complete boat operator education course per Ohio Revised Code 1547.05.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
May be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes & noise; may be ex-posed to chemical spray; may work in or near water; may work evenings, weekends &/or holidays; works outside & may be exposed to inclement weather; may be exposed to dangerous machinery; unpleasant odors, human & animal waste, outdoor elements (e.g., animals, insects, poison ivy).


Qualifications


6 months training or 6 months experience in semi-skilled maintenance functions (i.e., minor electrical repair, rough plumbing repairs, carpentry & masonry);

6 months training or 6 months experience in equipment safety practices;

6 months training or 6 months experience in use of shop, hand & power tools;

6 months training or 6 months experience in operation of mowers & trucks;

6 months training or 6 months experience in equipment & vehicle maintenance;

valid driver’s license

  • Or 6 months experience as Natural Resources Technician 1, 22621.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.


KNOWLEDGE:
Safety Practices (Equipment operation, Personal Protection Equipment [PPE], Safety Data Sheets [SDS], Occupational Safety & Health Administration [OSHA] regulations*, Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] regulations*); Agency Policies & Procedures (Department & division policies, procedures, & rules)*.

SKILL: Skilled Trade (Carpentry, Plumbing, heating, Electrical, Masonry); Equipment Operations (Shop tools, hand & power tools, chain saws, mowers, snow blower, truck with snow plow, tractor, dump truck, watercraft, Personal Protective Equipment [PPE] ,2-way radio, computer, telephone, photocopier, scanner, calculator, personal computer).

ABILITY: Reasoning: deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context; Numerical: add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers; PHYSICAL: DEMONSTRATE STRENGTH TO LIFT UP TO 100 LBS. Tools, Equipment, Supplies; PHYSICAL: Maneuver up to 150 LBS; Verbal: complete routine forms; Interpersonal: ANSWER ROUTINE TELEPHONE INQUIRES FROM PUBLIC.
