Metal Fabricator/Welder responsibilities include:
- Reading blueprints and drawings and taking measurements to plan layout and procedures for fabrication
- Determining cut angles and lengths based from presented information on blueprints.
- Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Setting up components for welding according to specifications
Job brief
We are looking for a skilled metal fabricator/welder join our metal fabrication department and assist in the fabrication and installation of our stair and railing systems for residential and commercial construction.
A metal fabricator/welder must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also have an experience in railing and stair construction and related industry standards. An attention to detail and finish product assembly is required. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Proficiency in grinding and finishing of welded parts prior to powder coating/painting.
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
Requirements and skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Computer Skills
- Proficient in English and Verbal and Written Communication Skills
- Proven experience as metal fabricator or welder: successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program and/or 2 years work experience.
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (MIG,TIG)
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
- Deftness and attention to detail
