Position Description

This non-Civil Service position is located within the Mental Health Court of General Sessions Court. This position provides comprehensive case management services to adults who are involved with the criminal justice system that have a diagnosed mental illness. Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Duties

  • Perform intake interviews with those entering the program.
  • Determine needs and formulates a case plan to address both criminogenic and non-criminogenic needs as they present.
  • Work with clients to address their court requirements and case plan though in person meetings.
  • Make referrals to community mental health agencies, substance abuse treatment agencies and other community resources.
  • Work in collaboration with community resources to achieve treatment goals identified for the client.
  • Provide weekly reports, both verbal and written to the Treatment Team regarding client progress.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Recommend therapeutic adjustments, sanctions, and incentives to the Treatment Team.
  • Manage client files, both electronic and written; including data entry into both state and local databases.
  • Conduct visits with clients in the community and at their home.
  • Effectively communicate with clients and their support system.
  • Liaison between client and their families, community resources, other jurisdictions
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in supervision and treatment of clients diagnosed with mental illness and/or a substance use disorder.
  • Engage in ongoing training (both self-led and formal) to better understand the NADCP Best Practice Standards, HIPPA, CFR, mental health disorders and treatment, substance use disorders and treatment, trends in substance abuse, etc. This includes the mandatory attendance of both state and national trainings as directed.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Employee will work predominantly in an office and/or courtroom environment. They may perform field work that may result in exposure to violent or unruly individuals.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in either criminal justice, psychology, social work or related field. Preference given to those with a masters degree or 2+ years of experience of working with individuals diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorder.

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experienced in working in Recovery Courts/Problem Solving Courts/Treatment Courts
  • Experience working with adults experiencing mental health and substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of community resources to residents of Davidson County
  • Fluency in language other than English
