The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics competes at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics with the vision to reach Next Level Success for all 18 varsity teams and more than 500 student-athletes. The Bearcats have a proud athletics history, winning eight national championships and 117 conference titles. Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati (UC), Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Mental Health Clinician (Staff Clinician 1 - Athletics) to provide counseling services for UC varsity student-athletes. Reporting to the Director of Sport Psychology and Wellness and under the oversight of the Executive Director of Health and Wellness, responsibilities include potential diagnosis and treatment of patients, education, and collaboration with staff, and delivery of presentations to the UC Athletics community while following all professional association standards, state and federal laws, university, conference and NCAA policies and regulations.
Essential Functions
- Provide psychotherapeutic interventions to assist student-athletes to cope with mental health disorders, relationship problems, performance issues, and related environmental, educational, and vocational concerns.
- Identify present and potential student-athlete psychosocial problems and implement plans for problem resolution.
- Maintain quality documentation for medical records which may include (but not limited to): assessment, consult notes, consents, and releases of information in accordance with regulatory bodies.
- Consult with supervisor and other medical specialists to enhance student-athlete outcomes.
- Keep abreast of developments in professional field.
- Deliver psychoeducational programming to student-athletes.
- Participate in interdisciplinary student-athlete care conferences and team meetings.
- Work collaboratively with the student-athlete care team to ensure comprehensive care.
- May participate in staff meetings, in-services, continuing education programs, and research activities.
- Participate in peer supervision.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field.
Required Trainings/Certifications
- Licensed in the State of Ohio or license eligible as a Social Worker (LSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
- Must obtain Ohio licensure within 2 months or as soon as possible.
- Must be able to maintain all credentialing requirements.
