  • On Site – average 15 hrs per week for 87 days over a 23-wk semester for 2 semesters.
(Not to exceed 175 days and 990 hours.)
CAJC 2 hrs per day (on the 87 work days per semester)

The California Job Challe NGe Academy, as part of the National Guard Youth Challenge Program, is operated through a Cooperative Agreement between the National Guard Bureau and the State of California, and locally directed by Warrant Officer Alan Sullivan.

This is a recruitment for a short-term/temporary position. This recruitment will be open until the position is filled. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning June 16, 2022.

Under supervision of Director of Community Engagement provide medical services to youth enrolled at the California Job ChalleNGe Academy in Los Alamitos, CA.

Part-Time Emergency Medical Technician- Shall report to the clinic and provide on-site support each week when the CAJC Job Challenge scholars is in session. The EMT shall attend to students and provide support to the staff within professional guidelines and legal limits.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Evaluate the ill and injured.
(2) Render basic life support, rescue and emergency medical care to residents.
(3) Obtain diagnostic signs to include, but not be limited to, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, pulse oximetry, level of consciousness, and pupil status.
(4) Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
(5) Administer oxygen.
(6) Use the following adjunctive airway and breathing aids:
(A) Oropharyngeal airway;
(B) Nasopharyngeal airway;
(C) Suction devices;
(D) Basic oxygen delivery devices for supplemental oxygen therapy including, but not limited to, humidifiers, partial rebreathers, and venturi masks; and
(E) Manual ventilating devices designed for prehospital use including continuous positive airway pressure.
(7) Use various types of stretchers and spinal motion restriction or immobilization devices.
(8) Provide initial prehospital emergency care to residents, including, but not limited to:
(A) Bleeding control through the application of tourniquets;
(B) Use of hemostatic dressings from a list approved by the Authority;
(C) Extremity splinting
(D) Administer oral glucose or sugar solutions.
(E) Transport patients (as formally authorized by Cuesta College)
(F) Perform automated external defibrillation.
(9) Administer epinephrine by auto-injector for suspected anaphylaxis and/or severe asthma;
(10) Perform finger stick blood glucose testing; and
(11) Administer over the counter and prescription medications, when approved by the physician.

Contract employee duties and responsibilities shall generally conform to the position descriptions developed by the State of California for Nurses. The nurses employed under provisions of this contract must possess a license issued by the state of California to practice their professional skills. Any selected employee under contract with CAJC will have to adhere to all local, state, and federal mandates and policies that are in place.

This is a short-term/temporary position. Students currently enrolled at Cuesta College will be given priority.
