PANM is a group of physicians specializing in high-risk pregnancies. We are looking to add to our dedicated team of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, genetic counselors and other trained professionals. We are currently seeking a Medical Scribe/Assistant who has a strong work ethic, is self-motivated and detail-oriented, and enjoys learning new skills. Flexibility, dependability, and a positive team-player attitude are a must!

Purpose

Under general supervision, a Medical Scribe performs documentation in the EHR, gathering information from the patient's visit, and partnering with the physician to deliver efficient patient care. On non-doctor days, this position also performs a wide variety of administrative and clinical Medical Assistant functions including, but not limited to, direct service to patients either by phone or in person by conducting patient care in the manner of obtaining medical data/histories, routine vital signs, miscellaneous lab procedures, processing outgoing referrals and obtaining prior authorizations with insurance carriers.

Essential Duties

  • Actively takes part in the visit by documenting for the provider, ordering labs, and reviewing notes for grammar and completeness.
  • Performs various clinical activities including patient triage/discharge, patient interviewing, and assisting provider in procedural set up and chaperoning.
  • Sends electronic prescriptions as ordered by provider and obtains prior authorization for such medications as required.
  • Conducts initial screening of patient, collects patient data, and takes medical histories; enters data into electronic health record, verifies accuracy of data, makes corrections when necessary. Promptly reports abnormal data to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks by taking vital signs, and preparing charts.
  • Performs routine specialized non-invasive or invasive treatment procedures, as required by the clinic specialty that may include oximetry, point of care testing, phlebotomy, spirometry, fetal monitoring.
  • May administer approved medications (i.e., IM/SQ/Oral) according to 7 Rights of Medication Administration.
  • May administer immunizations as ordered by provider.
  • Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters such as fetal kick count monitoring.
  • Assists with patient referrals to other specialists and obtains prior authorization when required.
  • Orders laboratory tests as ordered by provider and obtains prior authorization when required.
  • Receives and handles incoming phone calls from patients, pharmacies, referring provider offices and laboratories.
  • Keeps patient areas clean and stocked on a daily basis.
  • Completes EHR tasks sent from providers such as new prescriptions and lab results to be called to patients.
  • Follows up on outstanding labs and referral orders by calling patients to complete orders as recommended.
  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.

This position will support our office in Santa Fe.
