Please note benefits are based on eligibility according to full-time, part-time or PRN status classification.

Performs all duties related to the collection of accounts receivable. Establishes payment arrangements with patients in order to collect on accounts and is also responsible for maintaining patient accounts from the time they are billed until payment is received. Notes every account worked. Refunds overpayments according to refund policy. Assists all billing clerks with additional duties as assigned. Posts payments to accounts that are received in the mail or through the lock box as needed. Files all insurance according to State and Federal guidelines.

  • Collects delinquent accounts, establishes payment arrangements with patients, and follows up to ensure that delinquent accounts are being paid.
  • Receives patient payments on admission and discharge. Posts and makes a daily report of cash receipts. Maintains department records, reports and files as required.
  • When necessary, sets up financial arrangements. Maintains follow-up on accounts to ensure prompt payment.
  • Follow-up with insurance companies to achieve prompt and accurate payments.
  • Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings and all other meetings as required.
  • Goes through mail daily.
  • Answers inquiries regarding patient accounts.
  • Researches credit balance accounts and refunds overpayment to patient, guarantor, or third party payer
  • Establishes and implements a system for the collection of accounts. Collects accounts that are not paid-in full at discharge or at promised date.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Responsible for knowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital services.
  • Accepts and completes other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
