INTUITIVE MACHINES ENGINEERING SERVICES LLC Houston, TX

Intuitive Machines is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our team. This position will support an engineering services subcontract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.


The applicant will primarily be located on-site at GSFC in Greenbelt, MD with occasional time at the IM Mechanisms Annex in Hanover, MD.


The Mechanisms Engineer will work in a cross-functional team on the design, development, manufacture, test, and in-orbit operation of flight and ground support mechanisms, such as astronaut crew aids and tools, motor-driven actuators, deployable systems, optical adjustment mechanisms, robotic tools, and fluid couplings for cryogenic and rocket propellant systems.

Responsibilities


  • Under the mentorship of a senior engineer:
  • Own the design and development of mechanisms and mechanical systems associated with new and ongoing missions on ISS, in cislunar space, and on the lunar surface; provide engineering support for a variety of on-center technology demonstrations in support of these mission activities.
  • Perform design and analyses and effectively present solutions.
  • Ability to rapidly prototype and evaluate hardware.
  • Develop and assist in operations training and crew training activities.
  • Develop operational procedures, console user interfaces, and other ops products.
  • Experience with space mechanism tests to include test plans, test execution, and test results evaluation.
  • Systematically document progress and capture knowledge.

A candidate for this position will be encouraged to take on as much responsibility as practical and will be expected to play a role in the entire cradle-to-grave product development process, including requirements development, conceptualization, CAD design, drafting, supplier relationships, procurement and fabrication management, procedure development, contamination control, hands-on assembly and testing, and on-console mission operations support.


Required Education/Experience/Skills

  • B.S degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline and minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering or related discipline; or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Proficiency with component design and assembly management using 3D CAD software, preferably Solidworks.
  • Familiarity with commonly used space and commercial specifications for materials, processes,

fasteners, mechanical components, connectors, wiring, etc.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite

Preferences


  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Familiarity with motion simulation software and finite element analysis tools
  • Familiarity with performance requirements development for mechanical and electromechanical Systems.
  • Familiarity with commonly used space and commercial specifications for materials, processes, fasteners, mechanical components, connectors, wiring, etc.
  • Familiarity with common space industry additive and conventional metallic and composite manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with the generation of work orders, assembly procedures and test plans for mechanisms functional, vibration, thermal vacuum and life testing.
  • Familiarity with standard practices for assembly and environmental testing of space flight hardware as well as the tooling and ground support equipment associated with these tests.

Essential Requirements

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must exhibit professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
