Reports to: Facilities Manager Salary (Grade): $17.82 (G14-E)

Status: Reg. Full-Time (Non-Exempt) Location: Facilities Department Winnebago Ne. 68071 Job Purpose & Position Overview: Duties include maintenance, service and repair of any tribal vehicles as needed. This is skilled mechanical work installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, rebuilding and maintaining in an efficient operating condition all types of engines and a wide variety of mechanical equipment designed for general or specific application in domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural activities. This also requires knowledge of the structural and functional characteristics of specific machines or types of machines. Paperwork will need to be processed before and after each duty assigned.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.
  • Examine tribal vehicles and tribal equipment to determine extent of damage or malfunctions.
  • Keeps tribal equipment available for use by inspecting and testing tribal vehicles; completing preventative maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing and replacing filters.
  • Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearing and other potentially troublesome areas.
  • Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections, repairing engine failures, repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions, replacing parts and components and repairing body damage.
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune ups, maintains tribal vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting
  • Repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine-cooling and electrical systems.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers’ performance specifications.
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine safety and combustion control standards.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance and calling for repairs
  • Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders and verifying receipts
  • Review work orders, maintain vehicle records by recording services and repairs, discuss work with supervisor and clean shop as needed.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications.
  • Accomplish maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • Graduation from a two (2) year accredited college in any of the above mechanical fields OR have a minimum of (2) years of experience in the field.
  • If applicant has (2) years of experience they must be willing to complete ASE certification within a year.
  • Ability to endure environment in garage during winter and summer months
  • Knowledge of exposure to various chemicals used in cleaning, lubrication etc.
  • Frequent bending, twisting and lifting over 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of a variety of hand tools, power and air tools, a torch, tire machine, hoist, fork lifts and air compressors.
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees and staff, and assist when needed.
  • Must have your own tools.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the tribe’s insurance.

Training Requirements:
  • Must be willing to attend meetings and trainings as requested.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.
  • Frequent bending, twisting and lifting over 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision.
Language Requirements:
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

Certificates, Licenses & registrations:
