JOB Titile: Math Coach


SALARY: NC Teacher Salary + 18% supplement (supplement increased with years of experience)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed or be eligible to be licensed in 9-12 Math. Previous experience teaching high school math preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience

  • Evidence of successful experience with implementing culturally-relevant teaching practices

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of 9-12 math curriculum

  • Evidence of understanding of characteristics of adult learners

  • Evidence of expert level of collaboration skills

7. Master’s Degree or advanced studies in curriculum and instruction, math, or reading preferred

8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


REPORTS TO:
Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide leadership, support and consultation in the development, implementation and reflection of rigorous, standards-based lessons with demonstrated expertise in math content.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert knowledge about effective instructional strategies and intervention practices in order to raise the achievement of all students and close achievement gaps.

  • Serve as coach/resource to teachers regarding core issues of lesson design and reflection with specific expertise in math content.

  • Support teachers through modeling instructional strategies, effective use of small learning groups, and individualized coach/teacher conferring cycles.

  • Use the established framework for rigorous classroom instruction consistent with the Principles of Learning and high-impact strategies.

  • Assist teachers in grounding all instruction in relevant research, district standards, and assessment data.

  • Use established district criteria for coaching practice as the framework for coaching interactions.

  • Build a collaborative partnership with the principal.

  • Facilitate teacher learning groups and confer individually with teachers.

  • Participate in collaborative PLC team meetings to ensure teams establish essential skills, administer common assessments, conduct data analysis, and implement intervention plans to promote student learning.

  • Monitor, analyze, and share summative assessment data to assist PLC teams in planning instruction to meet the needs of all students.

  • Provide content-focused coaching to math teachers as needed for effective instruction and to promote student learning.

  • Assist and monitor implementation of Tier 1 and Tier II strategies, consistent with MTSS implementation, in order to raise the achievement of all students and close achievement gaps.

  • Provide professional development on instruction, assessment, and using data to improve student achievement.

  • Promote and model peer collaboration.

  • Provide targeted support to improve instruction for teachers identified by principals.

  • Serve as a liaison between the school and district administration to support the implementation of changes in or enhancements to the instructional program.

  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Eleven-month year position. Compensation is according to placement on NC teacher salary schedule and applicable local supplement (minimum of 18%, increasing with years of experience).

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job is evaluated in accordance with the provisions of Board policy on evaluation of teaching personnel.
