The University of Maryland, Baltimore Office of Communications & Public Affairs has an opening for a Marketing Specialist.

Primary Duties:
  • Support the University’s marketing needs across a multifaceted marketing plan, which includes publications, social media, web content creation/management, and more. Assist in the development and implementation of marketing strategies.
  • Identify the communication needs and goals of UMB’s administrative units and schools, and develop and execute effective marketing strategies to achieve those goals. Define desired outcomes and deadlines.
  • Maintain operational effectiveness within the marketing function to ensure projects specifications and defined outcomes are met.
  • Maintain the University’s email marketing system, which includes developing newsletters, announcements, and invitations, as well as other targeted emails based on need. Make recommendations on the best use of current email marketing through maintaining and reviewing analytics.
  • Assist with social media, including creating and publishing content, moderating accounts, and evaluating new social media outlets.
  • Manage production and distribution of marketing materials, including brochures, direct mail, and advertising, to a target audience. Generate proposals, contracts and other documents to secure business. Negotiate terms and conditions with some latitude.
  • Research, write, edit, and summarize content for inclusion in marketing materials for distribution and the web.
  • Assist with general administrative and finance functions, including internal billing and business management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree. Degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or related field of study is preferred.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in marketing, communications, public or client relations.

Other: Related experience may be substituted for education.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery.
Hiring Range: $55,000 - $62,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
