Role Overview

The Manufacturing Maintenance Technician is responsible for repair and maintenance of facilities equipment and maintaining maintenance logs for said equipment. Additionally, they assist with machine changeover, tuning and maintaining an adequate level of parts to ensure maximum uptime for the operations equipment. They work with the production managers and supervisors to develop time-saving tools and jigs to increase production efficiency and quality.



Responsibilities

  • Locates sources of problems by observing machinery in operation, conferring with operators, and listening for problems.
  • Repairs, replaces, adjusts, and aligns components of machinery and equipment.
  • Examines parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices using appropriate tools and devices.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using appropriate tools and devices.
  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Test-runs repaired machinery and equipment to verify adequacy of repairs.
  • Performs welds to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment.
  • Fabricate repair parts by setting up and operating machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to machine parts.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Attend and participate in Lean events pertaining to maintenance to eliminate waste.
  • Maintain facilities equipment in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.
  • Maintain maintenance logs for service done.
  • Work with production staff to develop tools, jigs, folders, etc to increase production efficiency.
  • Order and maintain an adequate stock of common parts for all facilities equipment and develop supply chain for uncommon parts.
  • Keep workplace clean, tidy and in good condition.
  • Return all tools and equipment to their designated spot after each use.
  • Other duties as assigned



Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/ move up to 50 pounds of material without assistance. Ability to lift over 50 pounds with assistance from others
  • Ability to sit, bend or stand for long periods of time
  • Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced
  • Manual dexterity required to work with both small and large parts

Qualifications

  • High degree of mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience in maintaining and repairing sewing machines is preferred.
  • Ability to read maintenance manuals.
  • Basic computer knowledge to establish and maintain electronic maintenance logs according to ISO standards.
  • English/Spanish bilingual a plus.
