The purpose of the role:

Manage and oversee engineering projects of various sizes and complexity by utilizing lean manufacturing tools. Perform project scope development, mechanical design and technical ownership of capital projects at all plants. This may include, but is not limited to, drawings, work packages, equipment specification, data sheets and engineering QA/QC. Conduct technical and feasibility assessments to optimize mechanical design with respect to operability, reliability and maintainability.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage project activities throughout lifecycle i.e. start to launch, including the allocation of adequate resources, documentation and other factors necessary for success.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing methods/tools for Continuous Improvement in all areas of the facility.
  • Collaborate closely with plant operation and maintenance teams for project requirements, testing, start-up, commissioning and integration. Ensure follow-up of the necessary corrective measures to meet operational goals.
  • Work collaboratively with BOL machine engineering team.
  • Cultivate close relationships with key plant personnel to promote project engineering objectives and enhancements that benefit these plants.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, interfacing disciplines such as product development, manufacturing, maintenance, automation and engineering at each site.
  • Prepare reports, meeting minutes and project deliverables with the ability to present information in a clear, concise and organized manner.
  • Promote a positive and safe working environment with a focus on accident prevention.
  • Ability to move onto ad-hoc projects requiring immediate attention and re-prioritize appropriately as a result
  • Ensure adjustments & settings are verified and validated before starting machines & equipment. Communicates this to operators for proper operation and maintain at all time, ensuring night shifts are coached accordingly. Create a technical training document using photos with a short description of steps & activities to be accomplished during setting and operation of the machine or equipment. (Keep it simple & 5S approaches)
  • Train employees in Lean Manufacturing to improve equipment operation and efficiency.
  • Maintain process books / ensure all process changes are recorded
  • Analyze and troubleshoot recurring problems using root cause analysis and develop solutions with Production and Maintenance to improve the efficiency of the area.
  • Ensure machines are running efficiently & meeting the OEE (overall equipment efficiency) targets set. Ensure cycle time and part standards are met.
  • In collaboration with the maintenance manager establish adequate preventive maintenance events and procedures needed for the newly equipment installed and update new process changes & improvement/technical documents.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical engineering preferred, with 3-5 years start-up, integration, or machine commissioning experience.
  • Mechanical and Electrical coordination experience within project construction experience will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to contribute and be seen as an informal leader within the team is necessary.
  • Ability to challenge peers to ensure highest level of performance / quality from team.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills, willingness to take initiative and challenge the status quo.
  • Detailed with a high level of follow through
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills and ability to train operators
  • Familiarity with management systems, AutoCAD, Solidworks, Common Industry Standards & Practices & Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Computer Proficient: confident using data analysis programs and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication (written/oral) and leadership skills with a history of excellent task prioritization and time management. Ability to multi-task.
