Job Description

Serves as Business Manager for all areas within Surgical Services. Insures data and system integrity related to scheduling procedures, charging, auditing, materials, inventory, reporting, budgeting and data management. Reports statistical and performance data to executives, other internal departments and outside consultants. Surgical Services of Elkhart General Hospital (EGH) will provide quality, fiscally responsible services to the Elkhart Community.

Job Responsibility

Management

  • Manages human, fiscal and other resources to achieve goals for pre and post procedure processes relating to scheduling / pre admit, insurance, surgical materials, charge processing, charting audits, routine reporting and denial investigations.
  • Assures effective and appropriate utilization of all resources.
  • Directs staff to provide effective customer service within the scope of hospital policy.
  • Facilitates the hiring, counseling, evaluating, educating and terminating of staff.
  • Provides ongoing communication to staff, other departments and physician’s offices.
  • Prepares support for capital, operating and budget variances in collaboration with operations managers.
  • Facilitates and contributes to recurring staff meetings.
  • Develops unit specific goals reflective of hospital-wide mission and goals.
  • Facilitates cooperative relationships among disciplines/departments.

Collaboration

  • Collaborates with operational managers and team leaders to design work flows and process improvement strategies for surgical services.
  • Assists operations managers as needed in preparation of operational budget.
  • Interacts with medical staff as needed to facilitate positive relationships between medical staff and hospital.
  • Works with operational managers and other departments to accomplish the work needed to assure a high functioning surgical service.
  • Assists in exploration of opportunities to expand services and increase profitability.

Data/Analysis/Reports

  • Oversees the use of surgical systems for scheduling, clinical documentation, tissue tracking, block reporting and analysis for decision support. (Cerner, Surgical Compass, TrackCore,etc).
  • Serves as primary liaison with IS for surgical information system.
  • Provides monthly statistical procedural data to executives.
  • Provides tactical data for ongoing analysis of surgery operations and efficiencies.
  • Provides data for decision support for future planning.
  • Supports Co Management groups with recurring updates to cost metrics and new analyses as requested.
  • Provides assigned statistical and LEAN metrics.

Charge Capture/Pricing/Reimbursement

  • Assumes responsibility for charge processes for Surgical Services departments (MOR, CVOR, Endo, OPS, PACU, supply/implant charges).
  • Monitors charging accuracy and addresses problem areas as needed through process change, education, etc.
  • Works with Finance and operations managers to optimize pricing and reimbursement strategies.
  • Evaluates the potential financial impact of new procedural techniques and services.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the departments.
  • Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree (required). Masters (preferred) A minimum of 5 years of job-related experience is required. Finance Department experience is beneficial. Experience with process or project management and healthcare business functions. Experience in planning and leading meetings.

Working Conditions

  • May involve some eye strain due to exposure to CRT and detail nature of work.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, multi-task and reprioritize projects quickly.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $33.02 - $52.86 per hour
